REVIEW: Good Prawn Noodles in Singapore: Da Shi Jia Big Prawn Mee 大食家大大大虾面 in Somerset Orchard Singapore

Da Shi Jia Big Prawn Mee 大食家大大大虾面
This has been on my to-go list on burpple for a long time and I finally found time to go on a day off from work. I ordered the Dashi Jia Wok-fried Big Prawn White Bee Hoon ($16.80/$19.80)which had a thumbs-up sign next to the picture on the menu, indicating that this is the recommended option. My plate of bee hoon comes in this nice china plate with blue floral patterns.

The rich savory-sweet red-orange broth was served with juicy & juicy prawns, Kang kong, slices of pork, and most importantly pork lard! The prawns are first wok-fried imparting it with the wok hei, followed by the bee hoon and other ingredients before letting it simmer in their signature prawn broth before serving it to their customers. The bee hoon looks mushy at first glance, but it soaked up all the umami from the broth making it super tasty! I felt that the broth could have been more robust though.
They also gave me an extra bowl of broth in case I couldn't have enough.

As with Singaporeans' fickle-mindedness, they also let the customer customize their own bowl of noodles. Firstly, you choose the size of your prawns which comes in 4 sizes ($5.80/$9.80/$13.80/$16.80). Choose the type of noodle next. Lastly, choose the add-on.
