Celebrate The Best of Hokkaido Delicacies with SUN with MOON’s 14th Hokkaido Fair!

Dig into Hokkaido’s signature delicacies without having to travel all the way to Japan! This January, Sun with Moon celebrates the enticing food of this well-loved tourist destination by bringing Hokkaido regional specialties to you in its seasonal 14th Hokkaido Fair from now until end-February 2021.

Not only famous for its beautiful snow-capped peaks and hot springs, but Hokkaido is also a foodie haven well known for its abundance of fresh seafood and agriculture. Tuck into regional specialty items such as Hokkaido Nabe, Zangi items, local potato mochi, and many more.

Some Hokkaido highlights on the Hokkaido Fair include:

Appetisers/Small Bites:

Yaki Tarabagani ($28.80)

Major Hokkaido withdrawals anyone? We bring a taste of Hokkaido to you! Start off with none other than this prized catch of Red King Crab leg that is currently in season, simply grilled in a choice of salt or savory butter and soy sauce.

Hokkaido Hotate & Asparagus Itame ($14.80)

Hokkaido scallops and asparagus pan-fried in butter and soy sauce and seasoned with freshly cracked black pepper for an umami finish.

Juicy Tori Zangi ($8.80)

What the rest of Japan calls “karaage” (deep-fried), Hokkaido lovingly refers to as Zangi. Many shops, especially bento shops and even convenience stores, sell delicious Zangi dishes. Get a taste of Hokkaido Zangi at SUN with MOON with these juicy deep-fried seasoned chicken bites.

Homemade Sake Hogushimi Potato Croquette ($12.80)

Japanese potato croquettes are well-loved tasty street food, but also a classic home-style dish. These flat oval-shaped patties yield the perfect ratio of mashed potatoes and Hokkaido chum salmon flakes, breaded with light and airy panko breadcrumbs then deep-fried till golden brown and crispy to give that wonderful “crunch!”

Teriyaki Cheese Imo Mochi ($6.80 for 2)
Local cuisine from Hokkaido, bite into the irresistible chewy potato mochi, filled with a gooey cheesy center and drizzled with sweet soy sauce. Best enjoyed with a slab of creamy butter and a dollop of Ikura on top.

Jyagapo Yaki Manjyu ($10.80)
Chewy potato flour dumplings filled with juicy seasoned pork then pan-fried for that crisp textural char. Served with a savory dip.

Mains:

Tarabagani & Hotate Hama Nabe ($32.80)
A staple Japanese winter food, hotpots are especially popular in Hokkaido’s chilly climate as a way to thaw out and fuel up. The recent sweater weather here is just the perfect hotpot mood with a bounty of oceanic delights of Red King Crab legs and Aomori scallops stewed together with a base of cabbage, tofu, mushrooms, and leeks in a mild dashi soy soup stock.

Mega Chashu Ramen ($16.80)
Known for their many styles of ramen, slurp up Hokkaido style ramen noodles topped with corn, marinated egg, and a giant thick-cut slice of stewed pork chushu, served in an indulgent, rich butter miso-based broth.

Obihiro-style Buta Don ($15.80)
Situated in Hokkaido’s Tokachi region, Obihiro City is a rather nondescript part of the North, but people flock here specifically for its culinary treasure – the Obihiro specialty pork bowl! Dig in for a taste of this delectable, energy-filled bowl of grilled sweet-spicy marinated pork collar served atop a light and fluffy Japanese rice.

Hokkaido Kamameshi ($27.80)
Enjoy SUN with MOON’s signature Kamameshi with a Hokkaido twist! Sliced thick Aomori scallops and Hokkaido salmon flakes are served atop seasoned steamed rice in a metal pot and topped with marinated salmon roe.

Dessert

Hokkaido Milk Kuzu Mochi ($7.80)
Hokkaido has become synonymous with milk, and not just your usual supermarket milk cartons, but the rich, creamy goodness that sets it a tier above the rest! A cold Japanese sweet, Hokkaido Milk Kuzu Mochi is soft and sticky and uses premium Hokkaido milk, mochi made with tapioca starch and simply served with fine soybean powder.

Matcha Cream An Doughnut ($8.80)
Oh, ‘Doughnut’ even think about missing desserts at SUN with MOON! Sweet and fluffy doughnut layered with fresh green tea cream and stuffed with a mildly sweet red bean paste with a strawberry on the side.

Omocheese & Strawberry Parfait ($9.80)
There’s no such thing as too many desserts – sweets occupy a separate stomach! Enjoy this creamy strawberry flavored ice cream parfait layered with fresh whipped cream, crumble, and cornflakes for that textural crunch, syrup, and topped with specialty cheese mochi cubes.

Duo Sweet Potato & Vanilla Ice ($8.80)
Nutritious duo color sweet potato cake that is naturally sweet with a rich creamy center served with a side of vanilla ice cream.
