Joy Luck Teahouse Announces First-ever Celebrity Collaboration, Launching Chee Cheong Fun with Dried Scallop Hae Bee Hiam with Ah Ge Li Nanxing, Exclusively Available at the 4th Outlet at Parkway Parade

The teahouse’s fourth outlet will be opened on 22 January 2021, helmed by a trio of mothers who are kickstarting their entrepreneurial journey

Joy Luck Teahouse is proud to announce its first-ever celebrity tie-up with Ah Ge Li Nanxing. Together, they will be introducing the Chee Cheong Fun with Dried Scallop Hae Bee Hiam. The dish calls for the veteran actor’s rendition of hae bee hiam, which is his fond childhood dish. At the age of eight, he began watching and helping his late mother and Peranakan grandmother prepare it. Joy Luck Teahouse's Chee Cheong Fun is now given a local twist, and the hae bee hiam will satisfy the tastebuds of those who love their food spicy. For a limited time, the Chee Cheong Fun with Dried Scallop Hae Bee Hiam will be exclusively available at the teahouse’s newest outlet at Parkway Parade.

Also to be launched is the teahouse’s Chinese New Year offering: Gold Egg Tarts. The egg tarts will be flecked with 22-carat edible French gold flakes, which lend a touch of sophistication and up the aesthetic factor. Gold is a symbol of abundance, wealth, and luck, and hence these egg tarts will make a wonderful gift for your loved ones and colleagues!  Joy Luck Teahouse's signature egg tarts follow the recipe from Hoover Cake Shop (豪華餅店) and come in two forms: puff pastry and butter cookie. The velvety and creamy custard, which is made with eggs and butter, is not cloyingly sweet. The gold egg tarts are available in limited quantities, while stocks last.

Enjoy these new offerings at the Parkway Parade outlet, which marks Joy Teahouse’s first foray into a food court (Food Republic). The two offerings will be made available at the other outlets in the future.

Helmed by a trio of mothers who are in F&B for the first time
The franchisees of the Parkway Parade outlet are a trio of mothers who are venturing into the F&B industry for the first time. Verona Leong and Mega Liem are cousin-in-laws while Anne Tan is a long-time friend for over 20 years. Before the pandemic, Verona was an air stewardess for 25 years, and she is currently being placed on no-pay leave. Having left her job in October 2020, Mega wanted to strike out on her own and enjoy more flexibility in her schedule to spend time with her twins. Anne is a homemaker, and with her younger daughter who had just graduated from primary school, she decided it was an opportune time to make her own mark.

The three mothers share a common passion for baking and have attended culinary classes before at At-Sunrice GlobalChef Academy. They met Joy Luck Teahouse brand owner Robert Chua in October 2020 and instantly hit it off. All of them stay in the east, and when the opportunity for the Parkway Parade location came up, they decided to take it. The convenient location makes it easy for them to juggle their familial and career commitments.

“Our impression of Robert is that he is passionate, far-sighted, and has the ability to grow an F&B brand. This gave us the assurance to invest in this venture,” says Verona. “All three of us love Hong Kong, and we are excited to bring Hong Kong’s most famous street foods to the heartlanders in the east.”
