Legendary 58-year-old Dim Sum Specialist Swee Choon Launches Its First-ever Series of Frozen Dim Sum

Synonymous with timeless appeal and well-honed craftsmanship, Swee Choon has become a destination F&B venue for both locals and tourists. In “Destination Singapore”, a definitive guide for travel agents, the Singapore Tourism Board lists Swee Choon as one of the country’s must-visit food destinations. The restaurant also works with JTB Singapore to raise awareness as well as inculcate an appreciation of dim sum into Japanese tourists. The restaurant’s long-standing success is owed to the roster of 30 dim sum masters, who create its repertoire of dim sum by hand and from scratch, day in day out.

Swee Choon is currently managed by third-generation owner Ernest Ting, the founder’s grandson. Possessing a postgraduate master’s degree in finance from London School of Economics and Bachelor of Accounting and Finance from Exeter University, Ernest formally joined the company in February 2020. Under his direction, Swee Choon underwent a digital transformation, which included revamping and expanding its online menu to increasing delivery service options. As a result, its online delivery sales surged tenfold per month. Plans are also in the pipeline for Swee Choon to launch its own line of frozen dim sum, made with fresh ingredients and no preservatives, so that gourmands can enjoy the offerings piping hot at home.

Swee Choon is proud to announce the launch of its first-ever series of frozen dim sum! Now, you can enjoy its award-winning dim sum offerings right at home. Each dim sum is made by hand at Swee Choon’s central kitchen, then frozen. It is as good as savoring the dim sum in person at the restaurant! The packages come with preparation instructions in both English and Mandarin.

The series of frozen dim sum features the following:

Char Siew Bao* (6 pcs per pack) S$7.60: A classic that most Singaporeans grew up eating. The sweet BBQ pork is cocooned within a fluffy bun — one is not enough!

Salted Egg Yolk Custard Bun* (6 pcs per pack) S$10.40: Pry open the bun and the golden salted egg yolk lava will ooze freely. This is seriously addictive!

Lotus Paste Bao* (6 pcs per pack) S$9.70: The sweet and smooth filling is housed within a soft fluffy bun.

Red Bean Paste Bao* (6 pcs per pack) S$9.70: A crowd favorite, this offering boasts a filling that is not cloyingly sweet.

Siew Mai (12 pcs per pack) S$15.20: The generous filling of ground pork is fenced by a thin pastry skin that melts in your mouth!

Har Kow (10 pcs per pack) S$16.10: Bite into the huge, fresh shrimp, encased within a delicate pastry skin, and its juices will spritz forth.

Pan Fried Pork Dumpling (10 pcs per pack) S$17.30: Juicy minced pork is housed within a delicate pastry skin, which when pan-fried or air-fried, boasts a crispy texture.

Chive Pork Dumpling (10 pcs per pack) S$11.50: The aromatic flavor of the chives complements well with the savory pork. This can be enjoyed steamed, boiled, or fried.

Peking Dumpling (10 pcs per pack) S$11.50: Minced ground pork, garlic, spring onion, and ginger come together in this delightful offering.

Carrot Cake (5 pcs per pack) S$6.90: Enjoy this classic breakfast staple anytime. Pan-fry or air-fry them to achieve those crispy, addictive edges. It is even better when topped with sliced spring onion.

Beancurd Prawn Roll (5 pcs per pack) S$9.20: Juicy shrimp is married with minced pork and wrapped with a beancurd sheet. It is then deep-fried until crispy perfection! To serve, simply air-fry it for a few minutes.

Swee Choon Mee-Suah Kueh (5 pcs per pack) S$6.90: A Swee Choon exclusive! The original recipe is developed by second-generation owner Joyce Ting, the founder’s eldest daughter. Wheat vermicelli is often stir-fried or used in soups, but here the ingredient has been reimagined into a kueh. The mee suah is stir-fried with preserved sausages, chicken, char siew, chilled in a mould for it to set, then fried again. The exterior is crispy while the inside is soft and flavourful.

Shanghai Xiao Long Bao (12 pcs per pack) S$16.60: Painstakingly pleated, these steamed soup dumplings are filled with pork and a rich broth promising a savory punch. Complement it with vinegar and sliced ginger.

*These items will be available from 18 January 2021.
