The Michelin Bib Gourmand eatery brings you classic Japanese Szechwan favorites in a brand-new outlet in the West
Having been a CBD crowd favorite, Chen’s Mapo Tofu has established itself as a fuss-free dining option with an outstanding quality of its unique fusion of Szechwan cuisine with Japanese influences. This February 15, the affordable sister concept of Chen Kentaro’s two-Michelin-starred fine dining restaurant Shisen Hanten will see the opening of its second outlet at Star Vista.
Chen’s: A meeting of modernity and tradition
The new premises bring a strikingly contemporary cozy ambiance with stylish elements of wood and marble meeting Chen’s trademark red and yellow: a coming together of modernism and tradition which remains reminiscent of the brand’s generationally refined culinary culture. The open layout of the 73-seater space which encompasses an alfresco dining area is illustrative of its welcoming and homey spirit, wherein diners are inspired to embrace community and enjoy a pleasant meal with their loved ones.
Similar to the outlet at Downtown Gallery, this venue will also feature a glass window where customers can view the chef team preparing Szechwan signatures while enjoying flavourful bowls of their own.
New Menu Additions
The highly anticipated launch is marked by a return of the brand’s well-loved menu with its signature Mapo Tofu and other popular favorites such as Dan Dan Mien, Miso Nasu Don, and Kaisen Katayaki. A notable new addition includes Shishito Pepper Fish Soup (Rice/Noodles) which features tender New Zealand’s Ling Fish served in a savory broth, accompanied with lotus root and fried garlic.
Another new meat delight is the Kurozu Buta Don, boasting a generous serving of crispy pork, stir-fried with crunchy capsicums in tangy Kurozu vinegar atop hot, fluffy Hokkaido steamed rice.
