YUN NANS’ new outlet at ION Orchard is a stunning garden-within-a-restaurant serving up tantalising Yunnan highland Cuisine

YUN NANS, the largest casual Yunnan restaurant chain hailing from China, is set to entice with more delicious servings of goodness with its latest outlet opening at ION Orchard.

Opening as the fourth outlet in Singapore, the new space in the heart of Orchard Road seeks to transport diners right into a garden landscape, with the stunning new space designed as a scenic garden-within-a-restaurant. On the menu, it continues to serve up tantalizing dishes, with new creations including Pomelo Salad with Osmanthus Dressing 桂花百合柚子沙拉, Braised Fish Maw with Porcini Mushroom 野生牛肝菌焖花胶, Steamed Cod with “Mei Cai” 梅菜蒸鳕鱼, Hotplate Milky Tofu with Spicy Garlic Sauce 蒜香铁板包浆豆腐, as well as Claypot Rice with Minced Beef and Crispy Red Beans 小香芹牛肉配酥红豆焖饭.

Taking inspiration from the Ancient Tea Horse Road where busy caravans used to traverse through the winding roads up the mountains of Szechuan, Yunnan, and Tibet in Southwest China, its interiors feature lush foliage reflective of the Kunming Stone Forest that makes the trade network. Similarly, the restaurants’ tables are laid out in a winding pattern reminiscent of the trading routes, punctuated by plaited rattan accents inspired by the Dai Bamboo Houses and walls of different brown gradients that pay homage to the Mangkang Salt Fields.

Home of Highland Cuisine

YUN NANS has long held a sacred spot in the hearts of gourmands with its gao yuan liao li (高原料理), or highland cuisine, which teems with goodness thanks to the growth of its ingredients 6,000 meters above sea level. The seclusion keeps them free from pollution and supplies job opportunities to local natives who continue to harvest the wild mushrooms and ingredients by hand. The best of these wild porcini, black truffle, and edible flowers make up the menu at this new outlet, accompanying a medley of returning limited-time-only dishes.

Here are some of the new menu highlights -  the Steam Pot Chicken Soup with Lily Bulb 百合汽锅鸡, first launched for a limited period during Mother’s Day in 2021, is now back as a mainstay. With the addition of mildly sweet Lanzhou lily bulbs, the light and nourishing soup is a great starter for any meal.

For comfort, the Braised Fish Maw with Wild Porcini Mushroom 野生牛肝菌焖花胶 brings the best of Yunnan-style cooking. Featuring fresh fish maw from sustainably farmed seabass from a local farm together with wild porcini mushrooms, the savory dish is rich in collagen and goes well with rice.

Satisfaction comes with the Claypot Rice with Minced Beef and Crispy Red Beans 小香芹牛肉配酥红豆焖饭, where the ingredients are separate for diners themselves to mix and experience the fragrance and amalgamation of flavors.
