Award-winning Ken Japanese Restaurant Launches Seasonal Hairy Crab Lunch Set Under $90

It’s summertime in Hokkaido, and this means hairy crabs are in season! To celebrate this harvest, Ken Japanese Restaurant is launching a limited-time-only Hokkaido Hairy Crab Lunch Set, which will be available from now till the end of September.

In Hokkaido, hairy crabs aka kegani, are harvested from the Pacific Ocean. Distinguishable by their spiky hair all over their shells, and generally smaller in size compared with the other crabs, kegani are known for their sweet, firm meat.

Savor the imported oceanic treasure, which will be prepared in four different ways in the Hokkaido Hairy Crab Lunch Set ($88). First, whet your appetite with the flavourful Steam Beancurd Skin with Hairy Crab. Next, the seasonal crustacean comes in the form of a refreshing salad and crunchy hot spring rolls. The star of this set features a Hairy Crab Kaisen Don that is filled to the brim with glistening ikura and fragrant uni. Accompaniments include a fresh trio of sashimi and miso soup.

For a slow enjoyment, choose to enjoy this lunch set as a kaiseki-style omakase, where each dish will be served one by one, or get them served together at once for that Insta-worthy photo op!

Kaiseki-style omakase is a rare, centuries-long art

Helming the restaurant is award-winning Head Chef Ryo Endo, who has trained and honed his skills for 10 years in Miyajima and Hiroshima.

Under his guidance, Ken Japanese Restaurant doles out kaiseki-style seasonal omakase, a traditional Japanese Haute multi-course experience whose origin goes back centuries ago. Today, kaiseki dining is offered only by a handful of specialist restaurants in Japan or at a ryokan. CNN Travel touts kaiseki as ‘the world’s finest meal’, and here in Singapore, you can enjoy a taste of this art at Ken Japanese Restaurant.

Through the use of seasonal ingredients at their peak of freshness, Chef Ryo Endo seeks to create a perfect harmony of taste, texture, color, and appearance. A work of art in its own right, each meal is created at the chef’s discretion, who works with complete freedom to showcase his style, drawing on his experiences at Yamagata to inject elements of ryokan dining into his dishes.
