REVIEW: Good Fish soup in Singapore: Xin Yuan Ji (新源记) at Tan Quee Lan Street, Bugis

Yay! Finally got to chow down at Xin Yuan Ji (新源记) again! We had to wait for a table at this popular Tan Quee Lan Street restaurant. But it was all worthwhile! We had their double fish beehoon with milk and double fish soup with rice.

Address: 31 Tan Quee Lan St, #01-01, Singapore 188117

Opening Hours: 11.30am - 11pm

Let me tell you, that Teochew-style fish soup was on point! They loaded it up with fish slices, tomatoes, and veggies like xiao bai cai and tofu. The broth was light and clear, with just the right amount of sweetness from the veggies and fish. And my bowl came with milk, which added a creamy texture that made me wanna snuggle up with a cozy bowl and a spoon.

The mackerel fish slices were next-level fresh and hefty. None of that wimpy thin stuff you find at some places. These were thick and chunky, with a tender and flaky texture that I couldn't get enough of. And the fried fish? Don't even get me started. The batter was thin and crispy, not greasy or over-fried. It was the perfect balance of crunch and flavor.

Overall, Xin Yuan Ji never disappoints. If you're in the mood for some seriously delicious fish soup, this is the spot to hit up.
