REVIEW: Good Penang Laksa in Penang: My Own Cafe in Penang, Malaysia

My Own Cafe is a family-run cafe that specializes in Penang Laksa since 2013. They may look assuming to some, but they are actually listed in the Michelin Guide. We ordered the Assam Laksa, Nyonya Lemak Laksa, and their spring roll.

Address: 2, Cannon St, Georgetown, 10200 George Town, Penang, Malaysia

Opening Hours: Monday, Tuesday, and Sunday 10am - 4pm

Closed from Wednesday - Saturday

The soup for the assam laksa is prepared with freshly sourced assam jawa (tamarind), providing a sour note with a subtle touch of sweetness. The laksa itself is characterized by its light and refreshing quality, featuring delightful additions of fish, mint, and pineapple for added freshness and flavor.

Since it's Friday, we had the opportunity to savor the Nyonya Lemak Laksa, and we consider ourselves fortunate! This variation, infused with coconut milk, is luxuriously rich and creamy, boasting a velvety texture. It's adorned with a variety of toppings, including onion, curry leaf, pineapples, cucumber, and fish bits, creating a delightful blend of savory and aromatic flavors.

To complete our meal, we also ordered the spring roll, which easily ranks among the finest I've ever tasted. It was expertly fried to a golden brown, with a crisp and pleasant exterior that wasn't excessively greasy.

The cafe's interior, exuding a vintage charm, prompted me to capture some pictures during our visit.
