REVIEW: Good Roti Bakar in Penang: Hutton Lane Roti Bakar in Penang, Malaysia

We were exploring more breakfast options in Penang when we stumbled upon Hutton Lane Roti Bakar, a spot recommended by my friend for its fame in serving this Malaysian and Indonesian dish.

Address: 300, Jalan Phee Choon, George Town, 10050 George Town, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia

Opening Hours: 7am - 2pm

Roti bakar, which translates to "toasted bread," is a beloved breakfast staple in Malaysia and Indonesia. At Hutton Lane, this classic dish is transformed into a flavorful masterpiece. Sliced into smaller portions, the Roti Bakar is artfully adorned with half-boiled eggs and then meticulously blow-torched to perfection.

The toast boasts a crisp exterior from toasting while retaining a pleasantly soft and slightly chewy interior. The highlight, undoubtedly, is the contrast between the creamy, velvety texture of the half-boiled egg and the satisfying crunch of the toast. It's an experience reminiscent of the simple joy of dipping bread into a perfectly boiled egg.

Aside from their famed Roti Bakar, Hutton Lane also offers egg prata. While their Roti Bakar stands out for its excellence, the egg prata is served at a standard quality level, fulfilling the palate but not leaving a lasting impression.
