REVIEW: Good Ban Mian in Singapore: China Whampoa Homemade Noodles in Boon Keng, Singapore

Nestled within the vibrant atmosphere of Whampoa Market 5, China Whampoa Homemade Noodles stands as a beacon for noodle aficionados seeking a good bowl of ban mian. Upon arrival, the anticipation mingled with the aromas wafting from the kitchen. However, the first hurdle we encountered was the wait.

Opening Hours: 7am - 2pm, Closed on Monday

We opted for the dry you mian and ban mian soup, both served with small abalones. The presentation was simple yet inviting.

As I savored the first slurp of the ban mian soup, a delightful umami sensation enveloped my taste buds. The savory essence derived from the fusion of ikan bilis and soya beans in the broth was evident, creating a rich base that spoke of culinary expertise. The addition of mani cai, a leafy green, infused a subtle sweetness into the soup, elevating its depth and making each spoonful a symphony of flavors.

On to the dry you mian, a dish that beckoned with promises of savory goodness. Choosing to forgo the chili, I opted to have it tossed in dark soy sauce—a choice that proved to be a flavor revelation. The resulting blend of savory and sweet notes danced on my palate, striking a perfect equilibrium without overwhelming the senses. It was a harmonious marriage of flavors that left a lasting impression.
