Among these gems is HJ Waliti HJ Mazuki, a stall renowned for its mouthwatering mee rebus and mee soto. This venerable establishment has been a staple at Haig Road for over 50 years, and I recently had the pleasure of trying their famous dishes.

A Mee Rebus to Remember

A good Mee Rebus is characterized by its thick, rich, and well-seasoned gravy, paired with perfectly cooked yellow egg noodles. Toppings like hard-boiled eggs, sliced green chilies, fried shallots, and freshly chopped coriander elevate the dish, adding layers of flavor and texture. I’m pleased to report that HJ Waliti HJ Mazuki's version includes all these elements. The gravy was thick and rich, with a delightful grit from the peanuts, making each bite a burst of flavor – absolutely delicious!

Savoring the Mee Soto

The Mee Soto at HJ Waliti HJ Mazuki also impressed me. Using the same yellow egg noodles, the dish was garnished with shallots, spring onions, and an abundance of shredded chicken. The soup was rich and thick, with a balanced blend of savory and spicy flavors. The broth was so good that I nearly slurped it all up! My only minor complaint was that the shredded chicken was a bit tough, but this did little to detract from the overall enjoyment of the dish.

HJ Waliti HJ Mazuki's enduring presence at Haig Road Market & Hawker Centre is a testament to their commitment to quality and flavor. For over five decades, they have been serving up these delicious dishes, earning a well-deserved reputation for excellence. If you find yourself at Haig Road, make sure to stop by and experience their incredible mee rebus and mee soto – you won't be disappointed!
