食光栈 Time’s Eateria, located in Pelangi, is known for its traditional whole egg wonton noodles that evoke a nostalgic taste of the past. The shop's minimalist design, adorned with a mural that captures the "spirit of the rice eater," reflects the authenticity of their old-school flavors. Their standout dish, the whole egg wonton noodles, is meticulously prepared by a seasoned master with over 20 years of experience, resulting in noodles that are perfectly firm with no alkaline aftertaste.
Address: 30-G, Jln Sri Pelangi 4, Taman Pelangi, 80400 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia
Opening Hours: 8am - 6pm, Closed on Thursday
The menu features a variety of noodle and rice dishes, including whole egg noodles that can be paired with toppings like curry chicken, shredded chicken, minced meat, and deep-fried pork marinated in fermented bean curd. There are also up to 10 rice dishes to choose from, with popular options like Satay Sauce Turmeric Chicken Cutlet Rice and Salted Egg Sauce Chicken Cutlet Rice, both served with a fried egg. Each dish is served in vintage metal bowls, adding to the nostalgic feel of dining at grandma's house.
As their noodles are highly recommended, I opted for the Chicken Shreds Wan Tan Mee with Deep-Fried Pork (鸡丝云吞全蛋面 w 南乳炸肉). I chose the white version with a light, savory sauce instead of the usual dark sauce, and it was already full of flavor.
The noodles had a perfect al dente texture, just the right firmness that I enjoy.
The shredded chicken was plain, seemingly just boiled, but the deep-fried pork stole the show with its crispy skin and tender meat. I also added extra pork lard for an extra indulgent experience.
The wontons were a decent size with a generous amount of filling.
I also tried Time's Eateria’s iced White Coffee (食光白咖啡冰), which was served in a mug with a humorous slogan. The coffee was particularly foamy, smooth, not bitter, and overall quite pleasant.
