Continuing from where I left off on Day 3 of my 5D4N Osaka itinerary — after wrapping up a fun evening at Pokemon EXPOGYM, I made my way to the buzzing Dotonbori area for dinner and a bit of late-night exploration.
Address: 1-7-25 Dotonbori, Chuo-ku, Osaka
Opening Hours: Open 24 hours
Dotonbori is packed with ramen joints, but with only five days in Osaka, I had to be selective. RA-MEN SHI-TEN-NOH is a popular name that often comes up when people talk about must-try ramen in the area, so I gave it a go.
They offer three types of broth: shoyu (soy sauce), shio (salt), and miso. I went for the shoyu, and it didn’t disappoint — the broth was rich and flavorful, the char siu was tender without being overcooked, and the noodles were cooked al dente. One thing I noticed is that Osaka ramen shops seem to offer more broth variety, especially shoyu, compared to Tokyo. Overall, this was a super satisfying dinner!
Dotonbori by night is an entirely different experience. The iconic Glico Running Man sign, illuminated billboards, lanterns, and the lively crowd give the place a vibrant, electric energy that you just don’t get in the daytime. It’s one of those places that’s meant to be seen after dark — perfect for night owls, photographers, and street food lovers.
After walking off my ramen dinner, I stopped by Starbucks Tsutaya — a large café located inside the massive Tsutaya bookstore at Dotonbori. I wasn’t feeling caffeinated drinks that late at night, so I tried their new Baked Cheesecake Frappuccino, which is non-caffeinated and perfect for a sweet treat.
This Starbucks is spacious and comfortable, with plenty of seating and charging outlets. Whether you want to rest your legs, recharge your phone, or people-watch from the window, it’s a great place to unwind in central Osaka.
Ramen cravings hit again before bed, so I walked over to Ramen Kio, another Dotonbori ramen gem that’s open late.
Address: 2-2-17 Dotonbori, Chuo-ku, Osaka
Opening Hours:
Mon–Thurs: 11:30 AM – 2:30 AM
Fri–Sun: 11:30 AM – 4:30 AM
I ordered the char siu ramen with five generous slices of pork. From the deeply flavored soup stock to the springy noodles, every bite hit the spot. One thing I really admire about dining in Japan — even casual late-night meals are prepared with care and attention to detail.
If you're staying in Namba or Dotonbori, you're truly spoiled for choice when it comes to late-night food in Osaka. Next time, I’d consider booking a hotel nearby just for easier access to the ramen!
After this second bowl of goodness, I walked off my food coma back to the hotel, happy and full.
