The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore is celebrating history and heritage this Mid-Autumn, with a myriad of delectable mini mooncakes – all the easier to share with loved ones. Each purchase of The Capitol Kempinski Hotel’s mini mooncakes are akin to bringing home a piece of Singapore’s heritage from the mooncakes themselves to the boxes they come in. As part of Singapore’s Civic District, The Capitol Kempinski Singapore makes up the triangle of conservation buildings alongside the Capitol Singapore and CHIJMES. It is this heritage that is looking back on for this year’s Mid-Autumn celebrations.

As the moon turns full on the 15^th day of the 8^th month of the Lunar Calendar, it is time to gather the entire family, young and old, to remember the tale of Chang Er – the Goddess of the Moon – and commemorate her beauty and sacrifice with lanterns galore and a taste of mooncakes for fullness and good fortune.

This year, a delicate selection of mini-snow skin varieties are added to the hotel's delicious baked mooncakes collection, with ensembles unique to the hotel. Travel back in time with the Mini Snowskin Plantation 1840, based after 15 Stamford’s iconic cocktail of the same name. Baked varieties come in contemporary flavors as well as classic favorites that mooncake lovers look forward to yearly.

A Gift Worth Presenting

This year’s bite-sized mooncakes are perfect for gifting, presented in a stunning, intricately designed and multi-functional wooden jewelry box dressed in a vibrant crimson color of Kempinski’s iconic Lady in Red – harking the story of Singapore’s rich history as a commercial hub.

It draws its main inspiration from two key landmarks of Singapore’s Civic District – Capitol Singapore and CHIJMES – immortalized in a stained glass design just like the one in CHIJMES Hall.

The top of the box features a replica of the stained glass windows in CHIJMES Hall itself. On the front, the Capitol Building stands tall in a cutout design while the back boasts the outline of Stamford House. Sharp eyes will notice that it is exactly between these two buildings that The Capitol Kempinski Hotel sits, making them the perfect decoration of its mooncake box. The hotel itself is paid homage on the sides of the box with the cut-out outline of 15 Stamford by Alvin Leung, the anchor restaurant of the hotel.

All stained glass designs boast signature and meaningful icons that include landmarks such as Stamford House, Capitol The building, Capitol Theatre, the Theatre Zodiac Dome, Theatre Pegasus, CHIJMES, Caldwell House, CHIJMES Hall, Conserved Floor Tiles in CHIJMES Hall, CHIJMES Main Gate and Gate of Hope.

Once the mooncakes are consumed, the box is reusable as a jewelry box with its two-tiered drawers that get illuminated in the right light by the heritage of the stain glass-inspired design. Melding both Eastern and Western elements, the box celebrates colonial beauty without forgetting to highlight the comforting Asian sensibility of the occasion.

New this year are mini snowskin offerings for that delicate and sweet soft goodness in six different flavors.

The hotel’s signature cocktail – the Plantation 1840, which history stretches back in time to the Balestier’s astute sugarcane plantation – is transformed into bite-sized delights with the Mini Snowskin Plantation 1840 ($78 for 8 pieces) that still retains its alcoholic kick with flavored rum for a a mature sweet treat. Unique to the hotel, this flavor transforms the best of the cocktail into delicious edible form. The Mini Snowskin Tiramisu ($78 for 8 pieces) is a tribute to La Scala Ristorante, one of the most popular restaurants in Arcade @ The Capitol Kempinski, tempting tastebuds with creamy caffeinated punch.

The Mini Snowskin Valrhona 70% ($78 for 8 pieces) features nothing less than 70% pure Valrhona chocolate in its making for a deeply indulgent treat that promises to be popular with both adults and children alike as will the Mini Snowskin Salted Caramel ($74 for 8 pieces)  with its rich treacle-like center of the classic salty-sweet dessert. For something more delicate, The Mini Snowskin Lychee Rose ($74 for 8 pieces) will court tastebuds with a blooming fragrance that goes from fruity to floral, like the prettiest bouquet of flowers. Last but not least, the Mini Snowskin Mao Shan Wang Durian ($86 for 8 pieces) packs all the creamiest, most powerful punch of the local favorite Mao Shan Wang durian in snowskin bites. Traditional baked mooncakes come in enticing flavors that will satiate classic as well as contemporary tastes.

The Mini Baked Pandan Paste with Melon Seeds ($70 for 8 pieces) is made with real pandan for an authentic taste intensified in fragrance with nutty melon seeds. Those looking for something different will delight in the Mini Baked Red Bean Paste with Orange Peel ($74 for 8 pieces), which comes with a touch of citrus lifting the creamy sweet red bean paste.
