8 Best Laksa stalls in Singapore you don't want to miss!

Laksa is another local favorite in Singapore! Laksa is a spicy noodle soup popular in the Peranakan cuisine of Southeast Asia. Laksa consists of rice vermicelli (粗米粉) with chicken, prawn, or fish, served in spicy soup based on either rich and spicy curry coconut milk or on sour asam. The ones seen in Singapore are the kind rich in coconut milk. Despite this, there are different variations of chili used such as hae bee hiam or sambal chili. I have tried 8 Laksa from different stalls in Singapore and compiled them into this list.

 1) The Original Katong Laksa Since 1950s Janggut Laksa

I quite enjoyed this bowl of Crayfish Laksa, although not cheap at $9.50 but the fresh crayfish was worth the buck! The crayfish meat can be easily peeled from the shell, attest to the fact that it is fresh. What makes a good bowl of laksa is the gravy. The gravy here is creamy and not that spicy which suits my palate really well. Can taste the umami from the prawns in it as well! Will be back! Janggut Laksa is having Island wide delivery with https://janggutlaksa.oddle.me/en_SG/

Address: 331 Upper Paya Lebar Rd, Singapore 534949
Opening Hours: 10am - 9.30pm
Closed on Tuesday

2) Depot Road Zhen Shan Mei Claypot Laksa

Finally tried the Claypot laksa 🍲 from Depot Road Zhen Shan Mei Claypot Laksa which is located at Alexandra Village Food Centre! They have been awarded the bib gourmand status 4 years in a row and that says something. The flavors and quality are elevated by using a clay pot it helps to keep the ingredients tender and flavourful. The gravy is also thick and not watery at all! love it!🥰

Address: 120 Bukit Merah Lane 1, #01-75 Alexander Hawker Centre, Singapore 151120
Opening Hours: 9am - 3.30pm
Closed on Monday and Sunday

3) Lik Ming Laksa (CLOSED)

Lik Ming is by far the most popular Laksa stall at Toa Payoh with snaking queues during Breakfast time. They have been selling Laksa since 1965 but I'm not sure if they have been their whole life. They are run by second-generation owners now.

This comes generously with tau pok, fish cakes, cockles, prawns, and bean sprouts. The same hae bee hiam that was served on the side is used to make the broth thus the broth feels a bit grainy but aromatic. The broth was well-balanced and not too spicy. I think hae bee hiam generally are not that spicy which I feel makes this more palatable for more people. In addition, they have cut down on the use of coconut milk so I feel it's not as gelat.

Opening Hours: 6am - 1.30pm
Closed from Tuesday - Thursday

4) Sungei Road Laksa

Sungei Road Laksa should be a familiar name to many people. I ordered the $3 portion and it comes in a small bowl with short strands of bee hoon and generous ingredients in an orange aromatic broth. The sambal chili really elevates the broth so add more! It gets quite spicy though. Their broth is cooked using charcoal fire but I am not sure whether it affects the taste not.

Address: 27 Jln Berseh, #01-100, Singapore 200027
Opening Hours: 9.30asm - 4pm
Closed on Wednesday

5) Terry Katong Laksa

Terry Katong Laksa appeals to the health-conscious with no pork, no lard, no MSG, no added sugar, and no evaporated creamer! Despite all these, the laksa broth tastes very good too with a rich coconut aroma but not very spicy.

Address: 51 Upper Bukit Timah Rd, #02-194, Singapore 588172
Opening Hours: 9.30am - 7.30pm
Closed on Thursday

Address: Chinatown Complex Food Centre and food centre, 335 Smith St, #02-094, Singapore 050335
Opening Hours: 7am - 10pm
Closed on Wednesday and Thursday

6) Khoon's Katong Laksa & Seafood Soup

This bowl of Laksa from Khoon's Katong Laksa & Seafood Soup has a rich coconut-based broth which was so good! This resulted in a creamy, sweet flavor but lacking that spicy kick.

Address: Sembawang Hills Food Centre, 590 Upper Thomson Rd, #01-26, Singapore 574419
Opening Hours: 10am - 7pm
Closed on Monday

7) 328 Katong Laksa

Finally trying the 328 Katong Laksa at Queensway Shopping Center! The mildly spiced orangey broth flavored with coconut milk brings this local fav to a perfect balance. The really authentic laksa place always has the thick beehoon cut into shorter lengths so it can be eaten with just a spoon. There's also the gritty texture when I slurp up the creamy broth which is due to the shredded hae bee hiam. Check out their other outlets here https://www.328katonglaksa.sg/

Address: Queensway Shopping Centre, 1 Queensway, #01-60, Singapore 149071
Opening Hours: 10am - 8.45pm

8) 928 Yishun Laksa

This bowl of laksa should be iconic in Yishun along with 925 Yishun Hainanese Chicken Rice. Each orange bowl of laksa comes with a generous amount of ingredients such as crab stick, boiled egg, tau pok, fish cakes, and cockles. I chose the thick bee hoon but it was not cut up for me like the other Katong laksa stalls. There's the normal bee hoon and yellow noodles for everyone to choose from as well.

Their broth was sufficiently spicy and you can help yourself to their homemade sambal chili and laksa leaves so the spicy level can be customizable depends on your liking. Other than being spicy, the broth was creamy and rich in coconut taste.

Address: 928 Yishun Central 1, #01-155, Singapore 760928
Opening Hours: 8.30am - 6pm
Closed on Sunday
