Leng Kee Fish Soup (龍記魚湯), located at Bukit Timah Food Centre, is a beloved second-generation hawker stall known for its comforting and honest bowl of Teochew-style fish soup. Founded in 1997 by the current owner Mr Wan’s father, the stall has built a loyal following over the years. Mr Wan now helms the operations, continuing the family legacy with dedication. The highlight here is the sliced fish soup, featuring thick, fresh batang (Spanish mackerel) slices in a clear, naturally sweet broth—free from milk and MSG. The soup is light yet flavourful, complemented by ingredients like tofu, tomato, lettuce, and your choice of rice, bee hoon, or mee sua. Most bowls are affordably priced between $4.50 and $8, with generous portions that make for a satisfying meal.
Leng Kee Fish Soup at Bukit Timah Food Centre appeared in my search for top fish soup spots in the area, though I was initially doubtful—many places that serve fish soup tend to be bland or just average.
My first impression was that the cloudy broth came with a generous amount of fish slices, although it didn’t include much else like tofu or tomatoes. That said, the fish was impressively tender, and the broth stood out with its rich, full-bodied flavour and natural sweetness drawn from the fish itself.
