Kuriya Japanese Market debuts Fiesta’s Zong-nigiri for the Dragon Boat Festival

The Dragon Boat Festival is right around the corner, which means it’s time for zong or bak zhang rice dumplings once more. 

Joining in on the festivities is Fiesta which has premiered a series of Zong-nigiri, consisting of a selection of fusion zong x onigiri rice dumplings.

The signature chewy bites of glutinous rice enveloping different meats and ingredients of rice dumplings come wrapped in seaweed in onigiri-style, for the coming together of two cultures that promises something a little out of the ordinary. 

The Zong-nigiri, priced from $3.50, are available at all Kuriya Japanese Market outlets for a limited time only from 9 May to 30 June 2022. They are also available for delivery on Oddle, Grab, Foodpanda, and Deliveroo.

Zong-nigiri in 6 decadent flavors

Made of glutinous rice in true rice dumpling tradition, savor the Zong-nigiri warm for ultimate satisfaction. Heat them up easily in the microwave for 40 seconds or steam for a mere 16 minutes and you have an innovative addition to your Dragon Boat Festival celebrations this year. Shaped into the iconic onigiri triangle shape, they are wrapped in seaweed just like the iconic Japanese snack. Enjoy them in six flavors.

The XO Dried Scallop Bak Zhang Onigiri ($4.00) bursts forth with the earthy fragrance of dried scallop marinated in XO sauce, stuffed together in glutinous rice with chilled pork belly, dried shrimp, chestnut, shiitake mushroom, Chinese sausage and a blend of XO spices. 

The Pork Bak Zhang Onigiri ($3.50) comes with generous lashings of pork, both lean and fat, consisting of chilled pork belly, shiitake mushroom, dried mushroom, chestnut, Chinese sausage, spices, and Oriental seasoning. 

The Nyonya Pork Bak Zhang Onigiri ($3.50) comes with the signature Nyonya blue glutinous rice, colored by blue pea flower. Within, it envelopes chilled pork belly, pork shoulder, candied winter melon, shiitake mushroom, chestnut, Chinese sausage, Nyonya spices, and Oriental seasoning. 

The Nyonya Chicken Zhang Onigiri ($3.50) swaps out pork for chicken, with Nyonya blue glutinous rice wrapping up chicken, candied winter melon, shiitake mushrooms, chestnut, Chinese sausage, Nyonya spices, and Oriental spices. 

A meat-free option is the Chestnut Mushroom Bak Zhang Onigiri ($3.50), stuffed with zero meat, only shiitake, enoki and shimeji mushrooms, chestnut, vegetarian sausage, and Oriental vegetarian seasoning. 

A sweet dessert option comes with the Azuki Bean with Sweet Chestnut Onigiri ($3.50), made up of glutinous rice punctuated with kizami yuzu, azuki beans, red bean paste, sweet chestnut, and blue pea flower.
