Sixth Avenue in Singapore, a charming street nestled in the Bukit Timah district, offers a diverse array of dining experiences. This vibrant locale has grown from a quiet residential area into a bustling hub for food enthusiasts, featuring an eclectic mix of cafes, restaurants, bistros, and hawker stalls. Here are seven spots on Sixth Avenue that promise to tantalize your taste buds.
1. Sixth Avenue Nasi Lemak
Sixth Avenue Nasi Lemak opens at 6 a.m. I went there for breakfast early in the morning, and the coffee shop was crowded! There's also a Tea Party Cafe and JW Korean Food Story for halal Korean food.
I ordered the chicken wing set with bergedil. There are a total of 3 different sets to choose from, each with a different combination of side dishes with costs ranging from $4.60 to $5.60. For a breakfast item, it's a tad costly. They also sell the otah and kuning sets. They also sell beehoon, mee goreng, mee siam, longtong, and nasi lemak.
My meal includes basmati rice, fried egg, ikan bilis, chicken wing, cucumber, and sambal chili. The interesting thing about this well-known dish is that Basmati rice was used instead of regular white rice. The fluffy basmati rice had a coconut fragrance, and the chicken wings were well-marinated and crispy. They even sprinkle the crumbs on top. The Sambal chili was a little sweeter. The Bergedil was shaped like a ball, it wasn't the soft mashed kind but instead had chunks of potato inside which was pretty interesting.

2. AMANO ITALIAN RISTORANTE
TBH, AMANO ITALIAN RISTORANTE is quite inaccessible and is located Namly pl. It is considered a hidden gem in the Bukit Timah area. Amano, which means "by hand," offers authentic Italian cuisine. Amano delivers a real taste of Italy's finest, from fresh pasta to hand-made pizzas, complemented with quality meats and seafood from across the world. I ordered their Carbonara and Minestrone soup. Amano is within walking distance from Sixth Avenue or Tan Kah Kee downtown line MRT station.
Their Carbonara 🍝 is the classic kind that doesn't have heavy cream. The sauce is the amalgamation of bacon, pecorino, and egg yolk. The simplest cooking method but such a delicious plate of pasta. I also had their Minestrone 🍲 (V), a hearty stew with a mixture of vegetables, peas, and beans. Quite normal but a comforting stew to have
I ordered their Aglio e Olio. This savory Aglio olio dish has a little bit of spice, though was nice and garlicky. It was not very oily nor overly salty. Comes with Italian parsley and chili on top. If you like garlic, there are plenty of garlic chips on top.
I ordered their Truffle mushroom soup to go with the pasta. It was a blend of Portobello, porcini, and button mushrooms and was topped with cream, parsley, and olive oil. The truffle taste was very subtle and could be stronger. The soup was rich and thick with chunks of mushroom inside. I particularly enjoyed dipping the soft bread provided and eating it soaked in that umami.

4. Le Rida (Bukit Timah)
Le Rida is a restaurant along Bukit Timah Road offering a unique mix of Mediterranean, French, and North Indian cuisine. What a combination!
I tried the Shirazy Kebab, which features minced chicken skewers seasoned with Iranian spices and served with saffron rice. I also had their seafood soup. The prices here are on the higher side.
The rice was a bit bland, but the Shirazy Kebab was amazing! The meat was tender and packed with flavor. Not sure what to do with the yogurt on the side, I decided to dip the meat in it, which turned out to be a great idea. 🤩 The seafood soup was also very tasty, although a bit spicy, and it had generous pieces of fish and prawns.

5. 6th Avenue Wanton Mee
I discovered another long-standing stall, 6th Avenue Wanton Mee, which has been around since the 1980s! When I visited during lunchtime, there was a steady line at their stall, unlike the others. We tried the wanton noodles and mushroom noodles. The char siew was a bit dry and the mushrooms were quite bland, but I enjoyed the springy noodles and the wantons.

6. Patisserie Woo
Visiting Patisserie Woo at Guthrie House, conveniently situated near the Sixth Avenue MRT Station. The patisserie boasts a charming pastel Parisian ambiance. They are known for their exquisite artisanal tarts, cakes, entremets, and pastries.
I decided to try the pistachio tart and the yuzu mango cake. The pistachio tart features a buttery crust filled with rich, pistachio ganache, pistachio sponge, and wafer, topped with cameralised pistachios for an added crunch. The yuzu mango cake is a delightful combination of Koichi yuzu mousse and mango jelly, layered with light, airy sponge cake.

7. Lazy Lizard
I've always been curious about Lazy Lizard, a place I frequently pass by on the bus. Finally, I decided to visit this bistro bar known for its Western cuisine. Their menu features a wide range of options, including burgers, pasta, risotto, main dishes, all-day breakfasts, and a selection of alcoholic beverages.
I opted for their recommended dish, the crabby pesto spaghetti, along with the onion-rosti hashbrowns. The pasta was delightful, featuring generous shreds and chunks of crab meat, bird's eye chili, and cherry tomatoes, all tossed in a homemade pesto sauce. The pasta was perfectly al dente with a vibrant and fresh flavor from the pesto sauce.
Recommended to order the hashbrowns! The onion-rosti hashbrowns were equally impressive. They were crispy on the outside with a rich, golden-brown color. Though the onion taste wasn't strong. Each bite offered a satisfying crunch, followed by the smooth, buttery taste of the potatoes. Paired with the pasta, the hashbrowns made for a delightful and hearty meal.
