They also serve specialty mac & cheese options. A "Make-A-Mac" option allows you to personalize your meal, starting at $5.90 for two cheese choices (cheddar or mozzarella available during the visit). The elbow macaroni holds the cheese sauce well, while proteins like beef pepperoni and chicken sausage add depth. Although some ingredients, like the garlic oil, can be subtle, it's an affordable, satisfying meal for $9.

The menu features standout dishes like the 3 Cheese Cacio e Pepe Extreme, with a luxurious cheese sauce slightly overpowered by black pepper, and the Italian Carbonara with Parma Ham, offering classic comfort with a creamy sauce. The Japanese Clams & Mushroom Sakamushi combines the sweetness of clams and earthy mushrooms in a balanced umami fusion, while the Deconstructed Pesto presents a delicate, herb-infused dish with basil, pine nuts, and Parmesan.

5) Al-Jilani Restaurant

Al-Jilani Restaurant is located at Bencoolen Street and is open 24/7 so this makes a nice supper spot! Ordered their  Maggi Goreng which was very nice!! Next time shall top up with a sunny side up. Aside from their Maggi goreng, Indulge in their mouth-watering dishes such as Chicken Briyani, Roti Prata, Nasi Goreng Ilan Bilis, Egg Prata, Roti John, Bee Hoon Goreng, and Mutton Chop.

6) Crossings Café

Crossings Café, located on Waterloo Street, is a cozy, social enterprise café known for its community-focused mission and comforting meals. 7) New Station Rice Bar

New Station Rice Bar on Level 3 of Fortune Centre offers individual rice plates with various meat and seafood options, operating like a tze char spot. Known for its salted egg chicken with rice, this dish features crispy chicken pieces coated in a rich, umami salted egg yolk sauce with a smooth, slightly gritty texture. The portion size, with more chicken than rice, makes the $8.50 price point a great value. The concept comes from the team behind the popular New Station Snack Bar at Far East Plaza.

8) Four Seasons Café

Visited Four Seasons Café at Fortune Centre, where I noticed Killiney Coffee and Ya Kun were also conveniently located in the same mall. The café offers the classic kaya butter toast, so I opted for Set A, which includes two slices of kaya butter toast and half-boiled eggs, while swapping the drink for an iced honey lemon. The toast featured thin slices of crispy bread with layers of kaya jam and butter in between. It had a golden-brown, light, and crispy texture, with the thin butter and kaya layers giving it a delicate and slightly creamy touch.

9) Thai Gold Food

Sunshine Plaza in Singapore offers a variety of food options, including the hidden gem Thai Gold Food, a restaurant with over a decade of service. I tried the olive fried rice, Thai green curry with chicken, and Thai lemon tea. The olive-fried rice was savory, light, and fluffy with well-cooked grains. The green curry stood out for its rich, creamy coconut milk base and spicy kick, perfectly complementing the tender chicken and crunchy vegetables. The meal was flavorful and satisfying, showcasing authentic Thai cuisine.

10) Pasta & Co.

Pasta & Co. offers artisanal fresh handmade pasta with unique twists on classic Italian dishes. I tried their Cacio e Pepe, which featured Fusilli Lunghi Bucati, a pasta similar in texture to thicker instant noodles. Their version of the dish used a Secret Pepper Mix and Parmigiano & Pecorino Cheese. While the flavors were rich, the peppery taste was quite strong, and I would have preferred more cheese to create a better balance.

11) Lou Shang 楼上

Loushang @ Prinsep offers a nostalgic HDB-inspired ambiance with vintage décor and attention to detail. The menu complements this theme with drinks like Iced Pandan Kaya Latte and Iced Pei Pa Koa Latte, served in old-fashioned glass cups. The standout Rainbow Roti features Rainbow Bread, soft-boiled eggs, and custard flavors like Kaya, Milk, Bandung, and Chocolate, presented in metal tins. Desserts include the Orh Lulu cake, black sesame mousse, chiffon, and peanut butter, and Tutu Kueh with coconut mousse, Gula Melaka core, and vanilla chiffon.

12) 林玉梅 Lin Yu Mei Sarawak Laksa & Kolo Mee

Lin Yu Mei Sarawak Laksa & Kolo Mee, located at Waterloo Centre, is a must-visit for noodle enthusiasts seeking authentic Sarawak flavors. Known for its Sarawak Laksa and Kolo Mee, the eatery has expanded to multiple locations, attracting noodle lovers across Singapore.

I finally tried their Kolo Mee, which has three variations: Black, Red, and White. I opted for the White version, topped with minced pork, crispy pork lard bits, and char siew, garnished with scallions and fried shallots. The noodles are tossed in a savory blend of lard, shallot oil, and light soy sauce, delivering a delightful umami flavor. Each bite offers a satisfying mix of textures and tastes, with the crispy lard adding richness and the char siew providing a sweet, smoky note.

The dish is served with clear soup for refreshment and chili sauce for an added kick. Lin Yu Mei’s Kolo Mee stands out for its light, non-greasy profile, allowing the natural flavors to shine through. With springy noodles and a balanced, hearty meal, it beautifully highlights the culinary traditions of Sarawak.

17. Nan Rong Chee Cheong Fun

Nan Rong Chee Cheong Fun, nestled in Bendemeer Food Centre, is a cherished hawker stall celebrated for its classic and budget-friendly breakfast options. For over 20 years, it has been serving freshly steamed chee cheong fun (rice noodle rolls) at an affordable S$1 per roll, topped with a sweet brown sauce. The menu also features yam kueh for S$0.80 and Nyonya dumplings starting at S$2.20.

In late 2022, the stall briefly closed following the passing of its 82-year-old founder. However, it reopened in March 2023, now run by the late owner's wife and niece-in-law, who continue the tradition of offering quality dishes at accessible prices.

Though certain items like fried bee hoon are no longer on the menu, customers can still savor the signature chee cheong fun and other traditional delights.
