9 Places in Singapore to Try Soy Sauce Chicken Noodles

Soy sauce chicken is a beloved Cantonese dish that's become a staple in Singapore’s hawker culture — tender chicken braised in a blend of soy sauce, herbs, and aromatics, often served with springy noodles or fragrant rice. From humble street stalls to Michelin-recognised names, here are nine places around Singapore where you can enjoy a good plate of soy sauce chicken.

1. Hiang Ji Roasted Meat & Noodle House

Situated along the busy food alley of Toa Payoh Central, Hiang Ji is a popular lunch spot for many locals. We sampled both their Soya Sauce Chicken and duck meat with noodles, along with a serving of dumpling soup.

The chicken drumstick was tender, though we wished it carried a more pronounced aroma. The duck wasn’t especially tender either. The dumplings, however, stood out — generously packed with chestnut bits, prawns, and minced pork. The noodles came coated in a delicious dark soy sauce, providing a satisfying base for the meats.

Address: 470 Toa Payoh Lorong 6, #01-72, Singapore 310470

Opening Hours:

 Daily: 10am–8pm

2. Hua Zai Hong Kong Style Roasted Delight (华仔港式烧腊)

Hua Zai has been expanding its footprint across Singapore, with two stalls spotted just in Toa Payoh alone. Known for its roasted meats, we sampled the Soy Sauce Chicken with noodles and Roast Pork with noodles, both priced at $3.80.

The noodles were outstanding — springy and richly flavoured. The soy sauce chicken was juicy and tender, with smooth, well-seasoned skin. The roast pork was lean and not particularly tender but offered decent value for its price.

Address: Multiple outlets (e.g., Toa Payoh, Bukit Merah, Woodlands)

Opening Hours: Typically 10am–8pm

3. Chew Kee Soy Sauce Chicken

Touted as Singapore’s very first soy sauce chicken eatery, Chew Kee has operated from its Upper Cross Street location since 1949 — a rarity today.

The soy sauce chicken noodles came with springy egg noodles soaked in a savoury marinade. The chicken was tender and thoroughly infused with soy flavour, easily making this one of the standout renditions. We also tried their meaty dumplings, which were generously portioned and very satisfying.

Address: 8 Upper Cross Street, Singapore 058327

Opening Hours: Tue–Sun: 9am–7pm (Closed Mon)

4. Sheng Ji Soya Sauce Chicken Rice/Noodle (生記油雞飯 • 油雞麵)

Tucked inside Geylang Bahru Food Centre, Sheng Ji serves up a soy sauce chicken dish with a twist. We had yellow noodles topped with sliced chicken breast, vegetables, pork lard, and a mix of black sauce and chicken feet braising sauce.

The noodles were cooked just right, offering a great springiness. While the chicken could’ve been more tender, the dumpling soup was a delight — the dumplings were plump, crunchy, and well-filled.

Address: 69 Geylang Bahru, #01-59, Singapore 330069

Opening Hours:

Daily: 10am–8pm

5. 顺利港式油鸡 (Shun Li Hong Kong-Style Soya Sauce Chicken)

Located at Kim Keat Palm Market and Food Centre, this stall offers solid value with impressive execution. We tried their noodles with soy sauce chicken and with roasted char siu, alongside a bowl of wonton soup.

The egg noodles had a firm, chewy texture. The chicken breast was surprisingly tender, though the sauce could’ve been more robust. Their in-house roasted meats — especially the roast pork and char siu — were excellent, with a delightful crispness and tenderness.

Address: 22 Lor 7 Toa Payoh, #01-47, Singapore 310022

Opening Hours:

Daily: 10am–8pm

6. Ma Li Ya Virgin Chicken (玛莉亚处女鸡)

Located in the bustling Chinatown Complex, Ma Li Ya stands out with its unusual name and storied history. It’s said that the famed Hawker Chan once worked here before launching his own stall.

We tried the Signature Soya Sauce Chicken Rice and their signature braised beancurd. The chicken was tender — though not the tenderest — and best enjoyed with its savory-sweet braising sauce and crispy skin. The rich, dark soy sauce brought depth to the dish, which also came with a side of bean sprouts.

The braised beancurd deserves special mention: expertly marinated, soft, and velvety, with the sauce thoroughly permeating each bite.

Address: 335 Smith Street, #02-179, Singapore 050335

Opening Hours:

Daily: 11am–7pm

7. Yit Lim’s Hong Kong Soy Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle

Situated in Bendemeer Market & Food Centre, Yit Lim’s stall garners significant popularity and is easily identifiable by the typical queue forming at its counter. We ordered their soy sauce chicken noodles and dumplings (dry), and found the noodles to possess a delightful springiness. Even the breast meat was tender, and the skin carried the delicate essence of the soy sauce marinade. The dumplings were equally satisfying, boasting ample fillings.

Address: 29 Bendemeer Rd, #01-16, Singapore 330029

Opening Hours:

Daily: 9am–7pm

8. Kam’s Roast

Kam’s Roast, a Michelin-starred name from Hong Kong, now has an express outlet at Ion Orchard Food Opera. We tried the soy sauce chicken drumstick with noodles. The soy sauce, crafted from a blend of herbs like cinnamon, cloves, star anise, cardamom, and licorice, gives the chicken a complex depth. The meat was tender and juicy, and the noodles had a unique golden hue and great springiness.

Opening Hours:

Daily: 10am–10pm

9. Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Noodle Rice (Hawker Chan)

Once crowned with a Michelin star, this stall still draws crowds. While some feel standards have fluctuated since its heyday, the soy sauce chicken remains juicy and affordable. The marinade is reliably savoury, and the noodles or rice options make for a satisfying meal.

Daily: 10am–8pm
