10 Prawn Mee / Noodle hawker stalls/eatery in Singapore you don't want to miss!

There are so many Prawn Noodle stalls located in hawker centres around Singapore. I have rounded up 10 hawker stalls/eatery that you can give it a shot. To me, prawn noodle is characterized by its dark orange-hued broth, succulent prawns and tender ribs. The broth can be a result of boiling pork and prawns together or either one. It's a ubiquitous dish in hawker centers across Singapore. Perhaps you can start to check out these prawn noodle hawker stalls near you!

1) Deanna's Kitchen

Deanna's Kitchen is not new to people in Toa Payoh, they opened mid-2017 and has been going strong from then on. Malay friends can visit the market and try this out. It is located at Toa Payoh West Market & Food Centre. I went on a Saturday and the hawker center was frigging packed full of people. I ordered the prawn noodles with clams which cost $6.50.

A bowl of noodles with so MANY clams is totally worth it. The soup stock is sweet and flavorful with a tinge of a peppery aftertaste but I feel like it is not as rich as Sumo Big Prawn Noodles. They used chicken bones instead of pork bones for this and added prawn shells, anchovies, and dried shrimps and painstakingly boiling this for 3 hours. Nonetheless, the bowl of noodles was good and affordable overall with the number of ingredients.

They have since expanded with another outlet in Jurong East.

2) RIVER SOUTH (HOE NAM) PRAWN NOODLE

Exploring the #hawkerfare of Potong Pasir. River South (Hoe Nam) Prawn Noodle is a pretty well-known stall there and is located at a coffee shop at Tai Thong Crescent. They have their own shop along with a drinks stall. That goes to show their popularity.

I ordered the Prawn noodle soup with pork ribs. It comes with tender pork ribs that came off the bone effortlessly and 2 succulent prawns. The prawn broth was excellent; rich and full of crustacean goodness. Did not have much prawn soup before.. but this was good!! I read that the prawn shells were fried in hot oil before simmering with pork ribs for more than 8 hours.

3) Da Shi Jia Big Prawn Mee 大食家大大大虾面

Da Shi Jia Big Prawn Mee has been on my to-go list on burpple for a long time and I finally found time to go on a day off from work. I ordered the Dashi Jia Wok-fried Big Prawn White Bee Hoon ($16.80/$19.80)which had a thumbs-up sign next to the picture on the menu, indicating that this is the recommended option. My plate of bee hoon comes in this nice china plate with blue floral patterns.

The rich savory-sweet red-orange broth was served with juicy & juicy prawns, Kang kong, slices of pork, and most importantly pork lard! The prawns are first wok-fried imparting it with the wok hei, followed by the bee hoon and other ingredients before letting it simmer in their signature prawn broth before serving it to their customers. The bee hoon looks mushy at first glance, but it soaked up all the umami from the broth making it super tasty! I felt that the broth could have been more robust though.
They also gave me an extra bowl of broth in case I can't have enough.
They're just a stone throw away from Somerset MRT station.

As with Singaporeans' fickle mindedness, they also let the customer customized their own bowl of noodles. Firstly, you choose the size of your prawns which comes in 4 sizes ($5.80/$9.80/$13.80/$16.80). Choose the type of noodle next. Lastly, choose the add-on.

4) Sumo Big Prawn Noodle

Heard rave reviews about this super worth it big prawn noodles at Ang Mo Kio. It's also all over social media! I went down during one of the evenings and there was absolutely no queue. XD Lucky me! I heard that there's always a long queue and that could take up to 45 minutes to 1 hour.

The picture below did not show the food justice as I was surprised it came in such a large bowl. You could also see the generous amount of Clams and also the crayfishes surfacing on the soup. There are 3 crayfishes sliced into half in this bowl of soup. The bee hoon is well hidden beneath all these seafood goodness, and also the soup is actually kind of sweet. Very flavorful indeed.

This crayfish beehoon soup costs me $13 and it is so worth it with these generous portions of seafood. Besides this, they also offer  Prawn Bee Hoon Soup ($5), Sumo Big Prawn Bee Hoon Soup ($8), Japanese Lala Soup ($6.90), and also Lobster and Big Prawn Soup  ($24.90).

The best time to go is probably during weekday evenings.

They're available for delivery on FoodpandaDeliverooGrabfood, and Whyq.

Address: 628 Ang Mo Kio Ave 4, Singapore 560628
Opening hours: Tue-Sun 9am to 4pm and 4.30pm to 9pm

5) Chef Kang Prawn Noodle House

Michelin Starred Chef, Chef Kang has a new shop selling Prawn Noodles! Both shops are in close vicinity. It's not hard to choose as they only have 2 options in the menu. It's either the King Prawn Noodle Soup with Prawn Paste Spare Ribs or the Hot Stone Prawn Paste Spare Ribs Rice. I think the flavor for the broth and the rice are light and the flavor could be more robust. I freaking love their wonton mee though!

A bowl of piping hot King Prawn noodle soup which cost $10 comes with 1 Deep sea king prawn, pork lard as a topping, and a prawn paste spare rib.

I read that they used chicken feet instead of pork for this. The broth is painstakingly boiled for at least 16 hours with prawn head, shells, dried shrimp, and 5kg of chicken feet which resulted in a lighter broth.

They're available for delivery on Foodpanda, and Grabfood.

Address: Block 85, Toa Payoh Lor 4,
#01-328 Singapore
Opening Hours: 10am - 2pm daily
Closed on Monday

6) Beach Road Prawn Noodle House

I finally tried the Prawn mee at Beach Road Prawn Noodle House but they're located at East Coast Road. It was a weekday morning and it isn't that crowded at all, but I read that the place can get quite crowded during Lunchtime or weekends. They're so popular that they occupy 2 shophouses.

There wasn't much of a crowd so our orders were fast. The prawns had a good bite. I love how fresh and succulent the prawns 🦐 are! The small and medium-size ones come with medium-sized prawns sliced into halves. The broth was alright but not the best that I have tried. I would say their broth The pork ribs are kind of chewy and weren't very tender as well. You have 3 sizes to choose from – small ($5.80), medium ($8.80), and jumbo ($11.80).

They are available for delivery via Foodpanda.

Address: 370/372 E Coast Rd, Singapore 428981
Opening Hours: 7am - 4pm
Closed on Tuesday

7) Blanco Court Prawn Mee

I finally tried Blanco Court Prawn Mee 白兰阁街大虾面 which is located at Beach Road. The nearest MRT station would be Bugis and they're super near to Haji Lane. I love that they also have a long-standing history of 92 years and they have been around since 1928. Not to be confused with Blanco Prawn Noodle House which is opened by family.

The dry version comes with a generous portion of deep-fried shallots accompanied by pork lard and chili sauce. Doesn't pack a punch though. haha. This also comes with a bowl of their delicious soup which you could add to toss with the noodles.

Having been around for so long, they must have been doing something right. I love how robust the broth is and this is evident from the dark murky broth, but the prawns and pork ribs were not the best. I would like the prawn to be crunchier, this has a more chewy texture. The ones with prawn and pork ribs cost $5.90. Perhaps the jumbo prawns would have been a better choice. ($8.90/$10.90)
The 3-in-1 which consists of pork, prawns, and tail cost $10.90.

They're available for delivery on FoodpandaDeliveroo, and Grabfood.

Address: 243 Beach Rd, #01-01, Singapore 189754
Opening Hours: 7am - 4pm
Closed on Tuesday

8) Min Nan Pork Ribs Prawn Noodle

Tbh, this was an accidental discovery because I was there to eat western food but they are closed. Wondered around the hawker center and decided to try this Prawn Noodle. Min Nan Pork Ribs Prawn Noodle 闽南抢摊排骨虾面 is famous for winning the Channel 8 Reality show "Buzzing Cashier" (抢摊大行动). They really turn the tide after winning this reality show.

This bowl of prawn noodle comes with deliciously sweet broth, fresh prawns, and fall off the bone pork ribs! The pork ribs were so tender and it is the best that I have tasted so far. Value for money at $4.50 too!

The owner uses wild-caught Sand Prawns for their broth. In order to draw out the aroma, they are first fried with garlic and shallots then put to boil for 1.5 hours.

They have an option of Wholegrain Noodles too. Not sure how that will taste like though.

They're available for delivery on Foodpanda and Whyq.

Address: Tiong Bahru Market, 30 Seng Poh Rd, Singapore 168898
Opening Hours: 8.30am - 3pm
3.30pm - 8.30pm
Closed on Monday

9) Whitley Road Prawn Noodles

Whitley Road Prawn Noodles also have a long history. They first started in the now-demolished Whitley Road Hawker Centre in the 1970s, before moving to the now-defunct Farrer Park Hawker Centre. They are currently located at Old Airport Road Food Centre since 1996. The nearest MRT station would be Dakota MRT station.

This bowl of prawn noodle soup draws the crowd with their orange-hued umami-packed soup, fresh prawns(ridiculously small though) but then their pork ribs are kind of chewy.
Recommended by Michelin Guide in 2019.

Address: 51 Old Airport Road, #01-98, Old Airport Road Food Centre, Singapore 390051
Opening hours: Tue-Sun 9am to 8pm
Closed on Monday

10) Da Dong Prawn Noodles 大東蝦麵

Da Dong Prawn Noodles was founded in 1966 and the second generation took over in 2018.
I started my East Coast Plan in the morning and it is to have Da Dong Prawn Noodles 大東蝦麵 which is located at Joo Chiat Road

I was excited to try their broth as I have raving reviews on this and they did not disappoint! Their broth is one of the best I have tried so far, the orange-hued broth is seriously flavor-packed. It was so tasty I slurped till the last drop. They incorporated pork in this so you get the sweetness on top of the crustacean seafood taste. Their pork ribs were tough and chewy though.

This delicious prawn noodle comes in 3 sizes (small $5, regular $8 and large $10). Their soup is not refillable.
