20 Nasi Lemak to try in Singapore!

Nasi Lemak is a popular dish in Singapore that is typically made with fragrant coconut rice, crispy fried chicken or fish, sambal (a spicy chili paste), fried anchovies, sliced cucumbers, and a boiled egg. The dish is often served with other side dishes such as otah (spicy fish cake), fried fish, and vegetables.

Nasi lemak is a dish originating in Malay cuisine that consists of fragrant rice cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaf. It is commonly found in Malaysia, where it is it is revered as the national dish.

In comparison to other versions, the sambal of nasi lemak is generally sweeter and less spicy in the Singaporean Malay version. Since the sambal is an essential component of nasi lemak, it is desired that it be less hot in order to prevent the flavor of the coconut-based rice and the other ingredients from being overpowered.

There may occasionally be a variation made with long-grain basmati rice. To give the impression that it has been flavored with green pandan leaves, the rice is occasionally artificially tinted green. Nasi Lemak is a beloved dish in Singapore, and you can find it at many food centers, hawker stalls, and restaurants throughout the city.

So here are 20 Nasi Lemak stalls in Singapore for ya'll!

1) OG Lemak

I've been following Chef Shen Tan for a while now after seeing her as a guest host on a few episodes of Food King and seeing that she had a stall called @oglemak at the Newton food centre. I wanted to get the Chicken Rendang set, but it was sold out, so I went with the OG Lemak set and upsized it to chicken thigh.

Her famous twice-steamed nasi lemak, chicken thigh, fried egg, ikan bilis, cucumber slices, sambal belachan, and sambal tumis make up the OG Lemak set. Her nasi lemak, which has been steamed twice, is soft and fluffy, with a mild lemak flavor rather than a powerful one. With 11 components, this takes 4 hours to prepare.

I was surprised at how huge the chicken thigh was. The skin was so crispy and the meat was so tender and juicy!! Both the sambal wasn't spicy but leaned towards tangy and sweet type.

Address: #06-06 Grab Kitchen Hillview

63 Hillview Avenue, Lam Soon Industrial Building

Singapore 669569

2) No.1 Adam's Nasi Lemak

No.1 Adam's Nasi Lemak was one of the more popular stalls with long queues to get them. Possibly due to their assembling time as ingredients are already cooked. The rice is the star here. They used basmati rice and it is fluffy and every grain is separated. I also could taste the fragrance of the coconut milk used. The chicken wing was also crispy and flavorful. Would have loved spicier chili sauce though.

Address: Adam Road Food Centre #01-01, 2 Adam Road, Singapore 289876
Opening Hours: Tues - Sun 8am - 10pm
Closed on Monday

3) FONG SENG NASI LEMAK

I was apprehensive at first because it was a Chinese Nasi lemak vendor, but the rice was fragrant and delicious!! It's possible that the sides weren't warm enough. But this stall provides a vast selection of sides for me to choose from; however, I went with the luncheon meat.

Address: 22 Clementi Rd, Singapore 129751
Opening Hours: 6am - 4am daily

4) Bali Nasi Lemak

Bali Nasi Lemak may appear to be a typical nasi lemak stall, but it has been operating in Geylang since 1985! They're a good supper spot because they're open from 5:30 p.m. to 4 a.m.

The owner is also related to the owners of Mt. Faber Nasi Lemak and Ponggol Nasi Lemak. Their rice was light and fluffy, with a pleasant aroma. This stall offers a wide variety of sides at reasonable prices for me to choose from. It also reminds me of an economical rice stall with a variety of sides to choose from. I didn't order one of their sets, but I did order chicken wings, otah, ikan bilis, peanuts, and a fried egg. The otah was tasty, and the chicken wing was well-marinated, though it could have been a little juicier.

They also have a black chicken wing with kicap manis sauce on it. From a Nasi Lemak stall, something different.

Address: 2 Lor 15 Geylang, Singapore 388596
Opening Hours: 5.30pm - 4am
Closed on Sunday

5) Mount Faber Nasi Lemak

Mount Faber Nasi Lemak is located along Kreta Ayer road. Their closing time at 1.30 am makes them a good supper spot! The owner is related to the owners of Ponggol Nasi Lemak and Bali Nasi Lemak.

They specialize in Chinese-style nasi lemak with various side dishes to choose from. The drumstick was huge, the skin was crispy, meat was tender but could be juicier. The rice was fragrant but could be better.

Address: 47 Kreta Ayer Rd, Singapore 089006
Opening Hours: 11am - 1.30am

Hi Leskmi Nasi Lemak is another Chinese-style nasi lemak stall that I discovered at Whampoa Food Centre. The rice was tinted green with pandan. It had the mild fragrance of pandan and coconut milk and was also fluffy. I ordered a Set A which come with chicken wing, fried egg, peanuts, and ikan bilis. Added an otah too.
The chicken wing was not bad with tender and juicy meat. The otah packed a punch too.

Address: Whampoa Food Centre, 90 Whampoa Dr, #01-67, Singapore 320090
Opening Hours: 11.30am - 9.30pm

Dickson Nasi Lemak solely serves takeout and has a really well-organized operation. Their employees will go out and inform you of the wait time, and once you get at the counter, you will place your order and be handed a buzzer. You have the option of waiting inside or outside the shop. There was no room for a sit-down meal.

Their nasi lemak is served in a plastic box. The rice smelled really fragrant upon opening and also has a coconutty taste that wasn't overwhelming.

For ease of eating, the fried chicken drumstick was sliced into three pieces. How considerate of them!?! I can also see that the skin was absolutely crispy, with plenty of crumbs on top and those threads of lemongrass poking out. Parts of the chicken were dyed yellow because of the use of turmeric. The meat is tender and flavorful.

The sambal has a lot of flavors and was created with a staggering 18 components.
Despite how excellent it was, I wish they had delivered a complete egg instead of a half for the price point.

Overall, I think this is worth trying!!!

Nearest MRT at Dakota Mrt station
Opening Hours: 8 am - 10 am, 11.30 am - 2.30 pm

I've never visited Bugis Cube before, but I'm here to support Husk Nasi Lemak! The Wholesome Lemak Drumstick ($11.50) was my choice. This dish includes a large drumstick drenched in lemak chili padi sauce, sambal, anchovies, peanuts, achar, onsen egg, and fragrant coconut rice topped with crispy batter bits.

The coconut rice was served hot, which is uncommon at most stalls. The rice was also excellent, fragrant, and fluffy. The lemak sauce on the massive drumstick packs a punch, and the chicken was tender and juicy as well. I really like it, though it was a little more expensive than regular nasi lemak.

Address: 470 North Bridge Rd, #03-21 Bugis Cube, Singapore 188735
Opening Hours: 11am - 9pm
Closed on Sunday

Sedap Nasi Lemak is located at B1 of United Square Mall. They served Nasi Lemak Kukus which is steamed coconut rice. I got their butterfly pea rice, which was stunning with rice grains painted a vivid blue tint. Mine comes with achar, omelet, Ayam lemak cili padi, and sambal chili on a piece of banana leaf. The rice was fluffy but could be more fragrant. The Ayam was good! Very flavorful with tender flesh but they shouldn't be put on top of the rice.

Address: United Square Shopping Mall, 101 Thomson Rd, #B1-03, Singapore 307591
Opening Hours: 9am - 8pm daily

Address: 1 Fusionopolis Pl, #01-15 Galaxis, Singapore 138522
Opening Hours: Monday - Thursday 8 am - 8 pm

I ordered the Ayam Berempah Leg. I can see that the skin was absolutely crispy. What makes this dish extra special is the crunchy crumbs that come along with it. These crumbs, which are lavishly sprinkled over the fried chicken, are produced from the leftover spice combination used to marinate the meat. Infused with a fragrant blend of herbs and spices, including lemongrass.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Alot of nasi lemak stalls don't have the perfect fried chicken but this was quite good! The chicken was absolutely tender and also juicy!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The coconut rice was fluffy and mild in flavor, yet it was delicious on its own. The chili was flavorful, but it overwhelmed the rice when eaten together. The fried egg was also delicious. The fried egg was on point too. Look at the runny yolk!

Address: 122 McNair Rd, #01-45, Singapore 320122
Opening Hours: Mon-Sat 10.30 am -  9 pm

Sixth Avenue Nasi Lemak opens at 6 am at Sixth Avenue. I went there for breakfast early in the morning and the coffee shop was crowded!

I ordered the chicken wing set with bergedil. My meal consists of basmati rice, fried egg, ikan bilis, chicken wing, cucumber, and sambal chili. The fluffy rice had a coconut fragrance, and the chicken wings were well-marinated and crispy. They even sprinkle the crumbs on top. The Sambal chili was a little sweeter.

Address: 12 Sixth Ave, Singapore 276475
Opening Hours: 6 am - 12 pm
Closed on Wednesday

Chong Pang Nasi Lemak should be a well-known nasi lemak in Yishun, especially for those deployed to Chong Pang camp. Many people flock there for supper because they are open from 5 p.m. until 7 a.m. the next day.
I ordered their Nasi Lemak, which came with chicken wings, luncheon meat,  egg, tomato sauce potatoes, and sausage with sambal chili.
Their rice was light and fluffy, with a pronounced coconut flavor and pandan aroma.
The chicken wing had a crispy coating and tender flesh on the inside, but it could have been more flavorful. Their egg was not runny, which was a letdown. Their chili was forgettable. Sweeter than spicy.

Address: 447 Sembawang Rd, Singapore 758404
Opening: 5 pm - 6.30 am

13) Changi Nasi Lemak

Changi Nasi Lemak is a longstanding nasi lemak stall that is located at Upper Thomson road. I had the set with a curry drumstick. Comes with cucumber, their legendary Changi chili, ikan bilis, and half egg. They had a generous portion of rice too. Though the rice was fluffy, it was lacking in fragrance. Their chili was pretty unique as it had ikan bilis inside and was quite palatable.

Address: 183 Upper Thomson Road
#01-04, Singapore 574332
Opening Hours: Tuesday – Sunday – 10:30 AM – 8:30 PM

Mizzy Corner Nasi Lemak is one of the more popular nasi lemak stalls in Singapore but it is located in Changi Village so it is not really accessible. Not sure if the standard has dropped, but the rice was fragrant but quite clumpy. the chicken wing was good!! Tender meat and juicy. 😋 Their sambal chili was an excellent addition too. Not too sweet nor spicy.

Address: Changi Village Hawker Centre, 2 Changi Village Rd, #01-26, Singapore 500002
Opening Hours: 8.30am - 10pm

Trying out Tree Coconut Nasi Lemak 三颗椰子椰浆饭 which is located at Jalan Berseh Food Centre. The Nasi Lemak set, which includes rice, a fried egg, and chicken wings, is what I ordered. To complete my meal, I added the luncheon meat.

Their luncheon meat is good, too! The meat was pretty thick and it was fried in batter.
The rice was fragrant and fluffy. Although I could taste the coconut milk in the rice, I wished it could be served warmer.

The yolk was runny here, which was wonderful, as opposed to other stalls where the fried egg was fully cooked. The chicken wing had juicy, soft flesh and was well-marinated.
A stall that is underrated and deserves more attention. Even though Jalan Berseh Food Centre was mostly empty when I arrived in the late morning, there was no line.

Address: Jalan Berseh Food Centre, 166 Jln Besar, #01-27, Singapore 208877
Opening Hours: 10 am - 3 pm, Closed on Sunday

Went to try out the Nasi Lemak at the Coconut Club. The Nasi Lemak priced at $12.80 consists of Coconut Rice, Chicken Leg, Ikan Bilis, Peanuts, Cucumber, Fried Egg and Sambal. The coconut rice was fluffy with hints of coconut with a generous portion of Ayam Goreng berumpah with tender meat and crispy skin. Gonna flip table at this point of they only gives 1 piece coz freaking expensive. Dip a bit of the sambal chili for that fiery shiokness. This stall is included in the Michelin guide 2018 Singapore and is awarded a Bib Gourmand status.
That explains the non-stop queue outside the restaurant.
All in all, I can see the effort put into this plate of nasi lemak but I can get a good plate of nasi lemak elsewhere with all the ingredients, maybe add-ons and the price is still less than this.

Address: 6 Ann Siang Hill, Singapore 069787
Opening Hours: 11am - 3pm 6pm - 9.30pm
Sunday: 11am - 3pm

17) Kedai Makan Muhajirin

Kedai Makan Muhajirin is a Muslim stall at Toa Payoh selling Muslim food but I think they are more famous for their Nasi Lemak. Aside from this, they do have a wide variety of Muslim food such as mee rebus, mee goreng, long tong, nasi Padang, mee siam, etc. The price for their nasi lemak is definitely unbowed!

$1 nasi lemak comes with Ikan Bilis, cucumber slices, egg. If you're like me who think this isn't enough, I added fried chicken. I will add either bergedil or sausage too, depends on the mood.

Address: 20 Lor 7 Toa Payoh, Singapore 310020
Opening Hours: 6 am - 1.30 pm
Closed on Monday

I ordered the chicken wing set ($3.50). The drumstick ($4.50) and fish selar set ($3.00) are also available with a different combination of side dishes to add on. They also sell noodles dishes in addition to nasi lemak.

My meal consists of coconut rice, fried egg, ikan bilis, chicken wing, cucumber, and sambal chili. The coconut rice wasn't the fluffiest, but it had a distinct coconut aroma that I really like and the chicken wings were well-marinated and crispy, yet a little dry. The Sambal chili was a little sweeter.

Address: Adam Road Food Centre, 2 Adam Rd, Food Centre, 01-03, Singapore 289876
Opening Hours: 6 am - 3 pm, Closed on Sat and Sun

19) Selera Rasa Nasi Lemak

I have always wanted to try Selera Rasa Nasi Lemak at Adam Road Food Centre. I Ordered the "Royal Rumble" which consists of chicken wing, fried fish, Ikan Bilis, Begedil and Otah. For that many foods on my plate, it only costs $5.90. Basmati rice is used instead of the usual white rice. Fluffy and light with pandan fragrance.

Address: 2 Adam Rd, #01-02 Adam Food Centre, Singapore 289876
Opening Hours: Mon -Thurs 7am - 5pm
Sat - Sun 7am - 3am
Closed on Friday

20) Punggol Nasi Lemak

I had this plate of Nasi Lemak at Punggol Nasi Lemak who has a long-standing history of 41 years. The most important part is assembling your nasi lemak, apart from the usual chicken wing and chili, we added on luncheon meat and otah from their plethora of sides.
