REVIEW: Good Gimbab restaurant in Singapore: SSADA GIMBAB 싸다김밥 at Beauty World Singapore

It's not an everyday occurrence to witness the opening of a fresh stall in the charming Beauty World vicinity. Recently, I had the chance to visit SSADA GIMBAB 싸다김밥 which is situated within the Bukit Timah Shopping Centre—an establishment dedicated to the art of Gimbab.

Address: Bukit Timah Shopping Centre, 170 Upper Bukit Timah Rd, #B1-14, Singapore 588179

Opening Hours: 10 am - 3 pm, 5 pm - 9 pm

Closed on Monday

The idea of this new dining venture caught the interest of one of my colleagues, leading us to venture inside. Nestled within the shopping complex, the eatery offered a generous seating arrangement both indoors and outdoors. The interior exuded a sense of understated elegance with its white walls, tastefully adorned by captivating neon signs, and complemented by a predominantly wooden furnishing arrangement. This setting provided a relaxed and inviting ambiance that made it an ideal spot for a leisurely lunch.

What actually distinguished this establishment was its adherence to a Korean bunsik idea, which featured not only a delightful assortment of Gimbab variants but also a selection of other enticing foods. Classics like kimchi fried rice, the ever-popular Cheese Tteobokki, and the comforting flavors of kimchi stew were among them. The menu was a delectable combination of Korean comfort food, promising an intriguing trip through various textures and flavors.

During our visit, we had a plate of Cheese Tteobokki, which lived up to its reputation as a crowd-pleaser. The combination of chewy rice cakes and rich melting cheese provided a perfect contrast of flavors and textures, resulting in a pleasant burst of flavor with each bite. This was also pretty hot, so be advised!

Of course, we couldn't pass up the Gimbabs that the restaurant specialized in. Our selection offered a variety of options that highlighted the restaurant's culinary creativity. The Beef Gimbab was a brilliant combination of minced beef and fresh veggies wrapped in a bed of seasoned rice and seaweed. The Cheese Gimbab, on the other hand, added a creative twist to the classic flavors, lifting them to new heights, albeit we longed for more cheese folded into the gimbab instead of carrots. Then there was the Tonkotsu Gimbab, which infused the rolls with the rich and savory essence of tonkotsu, providing a layer of complexity to the flavor profile.
