REVIEW: Good Pad Ka Prao in Bangkok, Thailand: Phed Mark Bkk เผ็ดมาร์ค

Phed Mark, a restaurant renowned for its exceptional pad ka prao, has become a must-visit for lovers of traditional Thai cuisine. This iconic Thai stir-fry dish, featuring minced meat, Thai holy basil, garlic, chili, and soy sauce, is the star of the menu. Established by celebrity YouTuber Mark Wiens, Phed Mark's immense popularity often leads to lengthy wait times for indoor seating. However, takeaway orders are processed more swiftly, offering a quicker alternative for those on the go.

Address: 300 Sukhumvit Rd, Phra Khanong, Khlong Toei, Bangkok 10110, Thailand

Opening Hours: 10 am – 7 pm

The menu at Phed Mark offers eight variations of pad ka prao, each available in five levels of spiciness, and all served with rice and a duck egg. This variety ensures there's a perfect dish for every palate.

On my visit, I ordered the unexpected Wagyu option in the non-spicy variant. While Wagyu beef is typically known for its melt-in-your-mouth texture, this preparation was unfortunately overcooked and less tender. Nonetheless, the portion size was generous. The holy basil added a robust flavor and a pleasant chewiness, enhanced by garlic bits and small cloves. The fried duck eggs were a delightful addition, featuring a crisp bottom and luxuriously creamy yolk. Combining all the elements of the dish is crucial for an optimal experience.

While I can't definitively say Phed Mark offers the best pad ka prao due to limited comparisons, it certainly exceeded average expectations. However, the prolonged wait may not justify the overall experience for everyone. If you're a fan of traditional Thai dishes and don't mind a wait, Phed Mark is worth a visit.
