6 Cafes in East Coast you don't want to miss!

What's your east coast plan? Here are some cafes you may want to include in your cafe-hopping plans!

1) Cafe De Nicole's Flower

Tucked in the slightly ulu Telok Kurau Rd is the instagrammable Cafe De Nicole's Flower cafe, they are a floral-themed cafe and is perfect if you want a quiet getaway from the hustle-bustle. You will notice that there's a small flower shop once you stepped into the cafe. There are also many spots for photography or mainly your OOTD. This is why they're so Instagram-Worthy. They're also a Pet-friendly cafe too with the boss's cat running around.

Coffee is always my go-to midday option of relaxing at a cafe. The rose latte (pictured below) is topped with actual petals, and the art on the latte is just the cutest too!

Aside from coffee, they also have souffle pancakes too! Check out their all-day breakfast menu.

📍Kembangan (nearest mrt I can locate) . 𝙊𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙎𝙤𝙪𝙛𝙛𝙡é 𝙋𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙃𝙤𝙠𝙠𝙖𝙞𝙙𝙤 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙬𝙗𝙚𝙧𝙧𝙮 𝙄𝙘𝙚 𝘾𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙢 (~$19.90) may be the best soufflé pancakes I’ve tried in Sg 🥰 . Jiggly, wobbly and eggy, these melt in your mouth pancakes were so light you can’t stop eating them 🥞 Paired cleverly with the mild and floral Strawberry ice cream, this was a perfect match 🍓 Also, mad props to this Strawberry ice cream: I usually really dislike strawberry as an ice cream flavour, but this — I kept going at it 🌿 Value: 3.5/5 Ambience: 4/5 - pretty but its VERY squeezy, a patron nearly knocked over my drink Service: 3.5/5 Be back factor: 3.5/5 OVERALL: 🌕 yay!

2) Birds of Paradise Gelato Boutique

Birds of Paradise is interesting as its flavors were inspired by botanical flavors of nature. Expect flavors such as White Chrysanthemum, Earl Grey Lemongrass, Lychee Raspberry and Basil. It's basically a take-away shop but there's a small standing bar counter if you would like to enjoy it in the shop before heading to other cafes in the area.
What I had: The Seasalt Houjicha gelato has a roasty flavor with subtle sea salt flavor, whilst the Pandan gelato flavor is kind of watered down but refreshing.

Birds of Paradise are also included in the Michelin Guide 2019 for its house-made gelato! They also have another outlet at the Jewel ChangiI would definitely suggest getting their aromatic thyme cones with is available at all BOP outlets with their gelato.

3) Brawn & Brains Cafe

Brawn and Brains are located at the former Singapore Badminton Hall and it is of walk-able distance from Mountbatten and Dakota MRT Station. The interior is bright and spacious with 3 communal tables and a couple of small tables with a long window-side table near to the entrance which is great for people-watching and solo cafe-hoppers to chill.

They serve smooth creamy cold brew and is perfect for the hot weather here in Singapore, although it rained cat and dogs after I had that.

The must-order here is the over baked molten eggs ($12) on a tortilla with melted cheese on top. The portion is generous and is more than enough for one person. They have salmon, cherry tomatoes, avocados, and spinach as sides. I initially thought why the base of this dish so crusty one but realize it is tortilla after reading it online.

4) Homeground Coffee Roasters

Homeground Coffee Roasters is a micro-coffee roastery/Cafe that started online selling their coffee selection and other merchandise before opening a physical shop at Joo Chiat road. They started out having 2 rows of chairs with alternately raised tables facing each other.

They have since done a revamp and have high and low tables with chairs on each side.

East Coast has always been a great place for cafes - legends like @pennyuniversity are still in the same spot they were 15 years ago. A second wave of coffee places like @40handscoffee, @brawn_and_brains most recently @homeground.coffee then cropped up. And the story about bakeries around the area.. don’t get me started. When I’m in the area, Homeground has always been my go to - it’s the most centrally located at the junction near i12 Katong and I remember going in on a hot day to get an iced filter coffee and boy was it good - TOP 10 ice coffees. They serve bakes from @woodlandssd as well (they clear pretty fast) as well as Coffee “Equipment” and food which we haven’t had the chance to try yet. The latest time we went there we got a nice little El Rubi - a varietal from Colombia, fermented for 34 hours and washed and dried for 10 days. It was good, but that day it wasn’t the best - a tad underextracted if you ask me, which is fine! Sometimes you hit - sometimes you miss - but that’s ok. It’s often unfair to talk about all things good with a cafe from that one time ( stop trying to sound so damn positive all the time @other food peoples) or all things bad - so it’s important to give it a shot to get a more complete opinion. Do drop by when you have the chance if you’re in the area and dying from the heat!

Not a coffee connoisseur here, but the coffee is velvet smooth with no bitterness which is a win for me! Nice and chill vibe here at the cafe which is good for gatherings with friends.

They are also available on Grab Food for deliveries.

5) Choice Cuts Goods + Coffee

Choice Cuts Goods + Coffee is a hidden gem located in Katong point! What's unique about them is this cafe is also a vinyl shop. They have a curated selection of the ’80s to 90’s hip-hop vinyl, R&B and Soul records for sale. Music lovers and vinyl enthusiasts should check it out! Of course, I am neither of those but I am here for the coffee.

They also have a limited selection of All Breakfast Menu such as the smashed avo vegemite cream cheese toast ($8), PB & J banana toast ($6), Granola bowl (PB choco or Matcha) ($8), Pastries such as Almond Croissant and Banana Walnut cake ($4.50) and Breakfast Smoothie ($8). These would go well with the flat white that I am having. Besides coffees and teas, Choice Cuts also offers a rotating selection of craft beers from around the globe.

Dim lights, cozy environment, and hip vibes~

6) Sinpopo Brand

Sinpopo is situated in the heritage district of Katong, they sell local favorites but with an innovative reinvention. You can expect dishes such as Sinpopo Sliced Wagyu Horfun, Nonya Kiam Chye Arg, Babi Toast, Rojak Slaw, Muah Chee Salad, etc.
TBH, I was here for the desserts. It's the same for their desserts with local fav made into cake form.
They have the Pandan Kaya Cake 🍰 which consists of interlayers of blue pea flower-tinged rice cake, fresh coconut cream, and topped with a spread of fresh pandan kaya. Love the rich pandan kaya taste and everything is not too sweet.
Other than this, they also have the Gula Melaka, Pulut Hitam, and Putu Piring amongst their cake selection.
I also had the Tres Leches cake which is a sponge cake soaked in three kinds of milk: evaporated milk, condensed milk, and heavy cream. This is topped with chantilly cream and garnished with fresh blueberries and pistachios. I was attracted by the outlook of this cake but was pleasantly surprised by how rich the milk taste is. Love that it is not overly sweet too! yum!

Check out their menu here.
