9 Lor Mee stalls in Singapore you don't want to miss!

Lor Mee or called 卤面 in chinese is a Hokkien noodle dish that originates from Zhang Zhou, China. It is usually served in a thick viscous gravy that is made from corn starch, spices, and eggs. The usual ingredients added are braised pork, fried battered fish, braised egg, and ngoh hiang. Some stalls are more unique such as fried shredded yam or shark fish nuggets. Tbh, I don't see a lot of places selling Lor Mee nowadays so I have compiled a list of 9 Lor Mee stall from Singapore.

1) Zhi Xiang Special Lor Mee 智翔特制卤面

Nothing like thick flat yellow noodles buried in a thick starchy gravy but what distinguished this apart from others is the fried shredded yam and that's why they're "Special". It was crunchy and delicious like eating mamee noodles. The fried shredded yam is served in a separate bowl. Zhi Xiang Special Lor Mee is listed in this Michelin article on 5 Lor Mee Hawker Stalls Where You Mustn't Pass On The Gravy.

Address: #01-49 Block 93 Lorong 4, Toa Payoh Market & Food Centre

2) Lor Mee 178

Lor Mee 178 is included in Michelin Guide Singapore 2019. The yellow noodles are smothered in this dark viscous gravy accompanied by Shark's Meat Nuggets! Not a huge fan of the nuggets but the crispiness is undeniable. This is a good bowl of lor mee but maybe don't order the shark's meat? haha

Order Lor Mee 178 delivery via whyq here.

3) Tiong Bahru Lor Mee @ Old Airport Road 中峇卤面

The Lor Mee at Tiong Bahru Lor Mee comes with crispy battered fish, ngor hiang, and braised egg and boasts thick viscous gravy which holds everything together.  It is gooey, starchy, and flavorful.

Address: 51 Old Airport Rd, #01-124, Singapore 390051

Opening Hours: 8.30am - 3pm, Closed on Wednesday

4) Jue Dai Lor mee 觉代卤面

Jue Dai Lor mee is located in Ci Yuan Hawker Centre. No queue for this when I was there in the late afternoon. I ordered the $4 one and this comes with deep-fried battered codfish! The gravy has a subtle hint of spice with swirling strands of egg appear to be suspended within. This was delicious and very moreish.

Address: 51 Hougang Ave 9, #01-13 Ci Yuan Hawker Centre, Singapore 538776

Opening Hours: 8am - 9.45pm daily

5) Lorong Ah Soo Lor Mee 羅弄阿蘇卤面

Lorong Ah Soo Lor Mee was listed in many lists for best lor mee. I was there before their opening time and there was already a queue forming. The stall is located within Lorong Ah Soo Market. No delivery service for this stall, unfortunately.

No fried toppings here in this bowl, but generous portions of others toppings. There's braised duck meat, ngoh hiang, fish cake, and one whole egg. This gravy was thick and viscous but lacking in taste. Felt that it was too plain.

Address: 105 Hougang Ave 1, #02-51, Singapore 530105

Opening Hours: 12pm - 3.30pm

Closed on Monday

6) Xin Mei Xiang Zheng Zong Lor Mee 新美香卤面

Xin Mei Xiang Zheng Zong Lor Mee 新美香卤面 is included in the Michelin guide 2019 so I was quite excited to try this! Please check their FB page after 10 pm for updates on whether they will be open the next day.

What catches my eye was that there were so many ingredients here! I ordered the $5 one which has a lot of ingredients such as pan-fried fish flakes, braised pork, braised egg, beansprouts, and fresh parsley. I love the depth of flavor and richness from the five-spice powder and abundance of vinegar.

Opening Hours: 6am - 2pm

7) Fu Hui Lor Mee & Wanton Noodles 福惠云吞面•卤面

Fu Hui Lor Mee & Wanton Noodles is a hidden gem in Bishan. If you don't live in the area, you probably wouldn't know of their existence. Expect thick viscous broth with a strong vinegary taste and slight herbal taste. I felt that the addition of chili here really elevates the dish and it does pack a punch for me. I also like the deep-fried battered fish. It is so crispy!

Address: 150A Bishan Street 11, Singapore 571150

Opening Hours: 7.15am - 2pm

Closed on Wednesday

8) Soon Lee Lor Mee 顺利卤面汤

Soon Lee Lor Mee is one of the lor mee I have been wanting to try. It has been listed in many bloggers list for one of the best Lor mee in Singapore. This came with the usual braised egg & meat, crispy battered fish, ngoh hiang, and crispy bits. Instead of the herby taste, this thick viscous gravy was slightly sweet. Notable mentions here are the ngoh hiang. They are actually yam shaped into flat patties. Love this but circuit road is a bit out of the way. Please check out Soon Lee Lor Mee's Facebook page here for updates on their closing days.

Address: Circuit Road Food Centre (Block 79 & 79A)

Blk 79 Circuit Road, #01-07, 370079

Opening Hours: 12pm - 8pm

Closed on Monday and Tuesday

9) Yuan Chun Famous Lor Mee 驰名源春卤面

Yuan Chun Famous Lor Mee is listed in Michelin Guide 2019. It is located at Amoy Street Food Centre which is also home to many yummy hawker foods. I have read reviews that the standard has dropped here and that the original sold their business to this current owner. Not sure how it tastes like back in the days as it is my first time here. The gravy is thick, fragrant, and has a good consistency. This comes with  Ngoh Hiong, braised egg, fish cakes, pork dumplings, and braised pork belly. They are priced at $4, $5, and $6 respectively. The ingredients do get progressively more if you pay more.

Address: 7 Maxwell Rd, #02-79/80 Amoy Street Food Centre, Singapore 069111
Opening Hours: 7.30am - 2.30pm, Closed on Thursday and Friday
