12 Char Kway Teow stalls in Singapore you don't want to miss!

Char Kway Teow 炒粿條 is a popular dish here in Singapore. It is usually stir-fried over very high heat with sweet sauce, chili, a small quantity of belachan, blood cockles without shells, slices of lup cheong, fishcake, bean sprouts, and less commonly with other ingredients. It is not known to be a healthy dish due to it being oily and stir-fried in pork lard. It is usually a wok hei ladened dish.

1) Ang Mo Kio Char Kway Teow 宏茂桥鲜蛤果条

I knew I would love it as I like my fried Hokkien mee moist. This plate of Char Kway teow from Ang Mo Kio Char Kway Teow was similar, albeit wetter, and is kind of oily as you can see. It is not clumpy as well. I like how there are more pork lard and cockles on this plate too. Also, there's that smoky wok hei.

Address: 724 Ang Mo Kio Ave 6, #01-28, Singapore 560724
Opening Hours: 11.30am - 5pm
Closed on Monday and Thursday

2) Lai Heng Fried Kway Teow 来兴炒粿条

Lai Heng Fried Kway Teow which is at Shunfu Mart Food Centre. This plate of sweet Kway Teow was not as flavorful, and lacking in wok hei but also not too bad la. I think that is because they use vegetable oil instead of pork lard. They serve me this plate damn fast as they were stir-fried in batches. The nearest MRT station is Marymount MRT.

Address: Shunfu Mart, 320 Shunfu Rd, Singapore 570320
Opening Hours: 11am - 8pm, Closed on Monday

3) Outram Park Fried Kway Teow Mee 欧南园炒粿條面

Outram Park Fried Kway Teow Mee has gotten the Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2018 and 2019. Be prepared to queue for this as it can get quite long during peak hours. This is a testament to this stall's popularity. I couldn't find any fault with this. The plate of Char Kway Teow was moist and fried with egg, cockles, beansprouts, and crispy pork lard. They have the option of adding more cockles for $2 or an extra beaten egg for 50 cents. The well-balanced sweet-savory sauce coated the Kway Teow Mee with a good wok-hei. Definitely worth queuing up for this! The nearest MRT station is Chinatown and Clarke Quay MRT.

Address: Hong Lim Complex, 531A Upper Cross St, #02-17, Singapore 051531
Opening Hours: 6am - 3.30pm, Closed on Sunday

4) Dong Ji Fried Kway Teow 東記炒粿條

Dong Ji Fried Kway Teow has been awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2019 last year. They sell really yummy fried kway teow with strong wok hei. They fry each plate individually so it may take a while.

They only used the flat rice noodles which soaked up all the flavors from fresh seafood such as cockles and prawns. There are also lup cheong, bean sprouts, fish cakes, chives, and pork lard mixed in all the goodness.

Address: Old Airport Road Hawker Centre, #01-138, Old Airport Rd, Singapore 390001
Opening Hours: Mon - Thurs, Sat 10am - 2pm
Friday 10am - 10pm
Closed on Sunday

5) Shi De Fu Fried Kway Teow 食得福炒粿條

Bet you didn't know there is another Char Kway Teow stall at Ang Mo Kio that is not bad, they serve not only Fried Kway Teow, but also Bee Hoon and Mee Tai Mak. This decent plate of Char Kway Teow comes with bean sprouts, Chinese sausages, cockles, and eggs. This decent plate has a mild wok hei and tastes rather sweet. Maybe add some chili for a more well-balanced taste.

Address: 347 Ang Mo Kio Ave 3, Singapore 560347
Opening Hours: 12pm - 8pm, Closed on Sunday

6) 133 Penang Authentic Char Kway Teow

This one is not your commonly seen dark sauce Char Kway Teow as this was not fried with sweet sauce. Read that this plate of Char Kway Teow was fried with lots of lard oil but I don't find it THAT oily. This one had a rather strong wok-hei taste which was good.

Address: Bukit Timah Market & Food Centre, 51 Upper Bukit Timah Rd, #02-193, Singapore 588172
Opening Hours: 9am - 3pm, Closed on Wednesday

7) Tiong Bahru Fried Kway Teow 中峇鲁炒粿條

Tiong Bahru Fried Kway Teow's super long queue during lunchtime is an indication of their popularity. This one was moist which is to my liking but it is too sweet.

Address: Tiong Bahru Market, 30 Seng Poh Rd, #02-11, Singapore 168898
Opening Hours: 11am - 10pm
Closed on Weds and Thurs

8) Da Lao Fried White Kway Teow

If you prefer the white variation of the Fried Kway Teow, why not make a trip down to Lorong 8 Toa Payoh Hawker Centre.
I love this plate of Fried White Kway Teow from Da Lao Fried White Kway Teow. It is Not very sweet and tastes very comforting to me.

Address: Lorong 8 Toa Payoh Hawker Centre
,210 Lor 8 Toa Payoh, Singapore 310210

9) Fu Ji Fried Kway Teow 福记炒粿条

This hidden gem at Syed Alwi Road is sure to satisfy that craving. Think adequate wok hei and oily kway teow and noodles that are just nice, although I would prefer it to be wetter.

Address: 166 Jalan Berseh, #01-16 Berseh Food Centre, Singapore, Singapore 208877
Opening Hours: 2pm - 11pm

10) No. 18 Zion Road Fried Kway Teow

No. 18 Zion Road Fried Kway Teow was awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2019 last year. They are located at Zion Riverside Food Centre which will be closed for renovation from 1 Nov 2020 to 28 Feb 2021. This was the main reason why I was there!

The long snaking queue is evident in their popularity! TBH, this was a well-balanced plate of Kway Teow which wasn't too sweet nor too oily. It just didn't have that wow factor. I couldn't taste the wok hei but then again I was probably too early...

Address: Zion Riverside Food Centre, 70 Zion Rd, #01-17 Zion Riverside Food Centre, Singapore 247792
Opening Hours: 12:30pm - 9pm

11) Hai Kee Teochew Char kway Teow 海記潮洲炒粿條

Traveled far for this Char Kway Teow stall! The Telok Blangah Crescent Block 11 Market And Food Centre was rather quiet in the evening with most stalls closed but this stall had a queue. There was a long queue when I was there and this is because there is just 1 guy at the stall and he fries the Kway Teow plate by plate. omg! He does not even have an assistant.

Perhaps it is because he fries it plate by plate, my plate of kway teow has a significant smoky wok hei taste. This was moist and heavily coated in the savoury sweet sauce. This wasn't overly sweet and had a well-balanced flavor. They were quite generous with the cockles. There were many left when I was finishing my plate. This is worth trying!

Address: Telok Blangah Crescent Block 11 Market And Food Centre, 11 Telok Blangah Cres, #01-102, Singapore 090011
Opening Hours: Mon - Fri 5:30pm - 9pm
Sunday 4pm - 9pm
Closed on Sat

12) Lao Fu Zi Fried Kway Teow 老夫子炒粿条

Lao Fu Zi Fried Kway Teow was awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2019 last year. There was a queue when I was there. It seems like they have a queue number system and I have gotten the auspicious number 88 which the assistant said "Huat huat". lolol

It seems like they do not serve on plates at the moment as I asked multiple times and they say everything is served takeaway style regardless of whether you're eating there. This was fried plate by plate too. Really appreciate these hawkers who make an effort to ensure their customers get quality food.

Not the most wok hei laden plate of char kway teow but this wasn't very moist and had a well-balanced flavor that is not too sweet. Props for not having soggy bean sprouts like most stalls.
