10 Hainanese Curry rice 咖哩饭 to try in Singapore!

Hainanese curry rice is a Chinese Singaporean dish consisting of steamed white rice smothered in a mess of curries and gravy, generally accompanied by curry chicken, pork chop, Chap Chye (braised cabbage), and kong bak (braised pork). Original Singapore cuisine, everyone! They don't look very pretty usually as it is common that hawkers just pile the ingredients on the plate before ladling the curry over it.

1) Beach Road Scissor-Cut Curry Rice

Beach Road Scissor-Cut Curry Rice at Jalan Besar is a well-known Curry Rice in Singapore. I've been here a couple of times before and their curry was as good as I remembered. The plate of rice was drenched in a copious amount of curry. I ordered the pork cutlet, braised cabbage, and a fried egg. Despite being drenched in sauces, the pork cutlet remains crunchy! I also like how thick and flavourful the curry was and it's not spicy at all!

Address: 229 Jln Besar, Singapore 208905
Opening Hours: 11 am - 3 am
Delivery: Deliveroo, and Grab

2) Loo's Hainanese

Loo's Hainanese is located at Tiong Bahru. We ordered their pork chop, braised cabbages, eggs, and sotong. The aromatic curry which was ladled over our rice had a creamy coconut base. Their pork chop is the classic Hainanese kind which was served drenched in tomato sauce. It had a crunchy biscuit exterior thanks to Khong Guan biscuit. so good! I keeping forking for more.

3) No Name Beo Crescent Curry Rice

No Name Beo Crescent Curry Rice is also located at Tiong Bahru which is home to quite a few Hainanese curry stalls. I was there for lunch and the queue was so long!!! I didn't like that their pork chop had so little meat. The curry is a mixture of the trio of sauces which consists of lor bak sauce, chap Chye gravy, and their signature Ayam curry. As with other stalls, this plate of rice was slathered no less with their curry which was so good!!

Address: 40 Beo Cres, Singapore 160040
Opening Hours: 7 am - 3 pm
Closed on Wednesday

4) Cheng’s 27

Pop by Cheng’s 27 after one of my staycation for lunch, they could have been more generous with the potatoes in the curry. The pork chop however was crispy and yummy! The curry was creamy and mildly spicy which goes so well with the rice! TBH, a bit overpriced at $9 for this amount of food.

5) Toa Payoh Scissors Cut Curry Rice 大巴窑八巷剪刀剪咖喱饭

We also have our own Toa Payoh Scissors Cut Curry Rice which is located at Toa Payoh Lorong 8 Hawker Centre. We ordered fried eggs, cabbages, braised potatoes, and pork cutlets. The curry here was rich and flavorful but slightly on the saltier side.

6) Havelock Hainanese Curry Rice

Havelock Hainanese Curry Rice is located at Sims Vista Food Centre. The curry here is a little watery and their pork cutlet actually tastes kind of sweet.

7) Tian Tian Curry Rice

Tian Tian Curry Rice is located at Bukit Merah View which is right smack in the middle of Tiong Bahru and Red Hill. I ordered my usual egg, braised cabbages, and pork chop. TBH, their curry was more watery than the usual Hainanese curry. I didn't like it.

Opening Hours: 9 am - 9.30 pm

8) Hong Seng Curry Rice

Hong Seng Curry Rice is located within Redhill Food Centre. I ordered the Boneless Curry Chicken, braised cabbage, and a fried egg. The curry chicken was rather dry though, however, the curry was so good and slightly darker in color. It is also spicer but tolerable.

9) Redhill Hainanese Curry Rice

A rather disappointing one~ Porkchop was quite bad and curry taste quite normal. Not sure why this is on many must-try lists for Hainanese curry. The curry is watered down too.
