16 places to satisfy Wanton/Wonton noodles 云吞面 cravings in Singapore!!!

Wonton noodles (Chinese: 云吞; Cantonese: wàhn to mihn, also known as wanton mee or wanton mein) is a Cantonese noodle dish. The name was not given to wonton noodles until the Tang Dynasty (618-907 CE). Southern China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand are all major fans of the dish.

To begin, the wontons are primarily prawn-based, with small amounts of minced pork, if any, or no pork at all. The typical shrimp and pork filling for wontons is 70% shrimp and 30% pork. Second, aficionados will demand new, smooth, thin noodles that are al dente and free of the alkaline flavor that many egg noodles have when fried.

Moreover, Wonton noodles are also a ubiquitous hawker fare that is prevalent in many hawker centers or coffee shops in Singapore.

1)Chef Kang’s Noodle House 江師傅麵家

They were awarded the Michelin bib gourmand back in 2019. Ordered both the dry and soup to try.
Their char siew is marinated overnight and roasted daily in a charcoal oven on-site. Eggs, rice, and a splash of alkaline water are used in making the noodles, which are imported from Hong Kong. The noodles light and springy and do not turn soggy when soaked in the soup for too long and also absorb the sauce really well when served dry. The wantons are also plump with substantial fillings. Crispy lard bits adorn the tops of the noodles, adding a fragrant crunch to the dish. Everything is perfect!

2) Bei-Ing Wanton Mee 美樱云吞面

The shop has a history of 34 years in the wanton business and it's nice to see Hawker business continue to retain the traditional and thrives. Do drop by Bei-Ing Wanton Mee if you’re around the East Coast area.
Wanton Noodles. QQ egg noodles tossed in a yummy sauce served with well-charred charsiew, fried wanton skin, and wanton. The Uncle told me that the noodles ate able to retain the Q texture even after few hours have passed. Impressive. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

3) Eng’s Wantan Mee 榮雲吞麵

Eggy springy noodles with lean charsiew and small wonton. The wonton may be small but the fillings quite substantial la. The noodles don't have an alkaline taste at all which is good too! However, add the chili at your own risk wor... it's a very spicy one! Not sure if I will come here again but if you like noodles, this shop is the place to go to.

Address: 287 Tanjong Katong Rd, Singapore 437070
Opening Hours: 11am - 9pm

4) Kok Kee Wanton Mee 国记云吞面

Kok Kee Wanton Noodle 国记云吞面 is located at Foch road. Another area which has many nice food places. This wanton noodle stall is pretty famous with long queues every day. However, the $5 portion only came with 2 wantons which were IMO v little portion la. Their sauce is not the old sch dark sauce and also not ketchup, and IMO, more like soup than sauce. Not very nice. 😅😅😅 The charsiew was also the dry kind. Noodles were nice and springy though and wanton was also not bad.

Address: Bistro 8, 30 Foch Rd, #01-02, Singapore 209276
Opening Hours: 9am - 10pm

5) Hua Kee Hougang Famous Wan Ton Mee 華記后港祖傳馳名雲吞麵

Hua Kee Hougang Famous Wanton Mee 華記后港祖傳馳名雲吞麵 is located at Old Airport Road which is home to much yummy food and I have been there way too many times. Not to mention that they are included in the Michelin guide as well. Their noodles are QQ in texture and the wanton is solid but the char siew is too dry.

6) Ji Ji Wanton Noodles Specialist 基记面家

Ji Ji Wanton Noodle Specialist 基记面家 is located at Hong Lim Food Complex and is also one of the wanton mee stalls that are listed in the Michelin guide. I ordered their Ji Ji signature char siew wanton noodle which comes with 3 fried wontons, 3 normal wantons, charsiew, and mushrooms. Their noodles are rounder than the usual egg noodles and are specially made without ghee. No chili was added to my bowl and the sauce was already very nice.

Address:  Block 531A, Upper Cross Street, Level 2 #02-49, Hong Lim Food Complex
Opening Hours: 7.30 am - 7 pm

7) Koung’s Wan Tan Noodles 龔氏雲吞面

Koung’s Wantan Mee has been on one of my to-go places and I can finally check this off. The lovely springy noodles were nicely tossed in their savory dark sauce with fatty char siew and nice, substantial wontons! I don't like the dry kind of char siew but the ones here are charcoal roasted which's why more tender.

Address: 205 Sims Ave, Singapore 387506
Opening Hours: Tues - Sun 8 am - 8.30 pm
Monday 8. 30 am - 7.30 pm

8) Pin Xiang Wonton Noodles 品香

Pin Xiang Wonton Noodles is located at the Toa Payoh Lorong 4 Food centre. They specialize in the KL style wonton noodles that had the noodles tossed in dark sauce. The noodles were cooked just nicely before tossing in the dark sauce. That black sauce is truly an important component of a good plate of wonton mee. Add more green chili for the spicy kick. Simply delicious! Go early as they’re sold out very quickly. ✔️

Address: 3 Lor 4 Toa Payoh, Singapore 310093
Opening Hours: 5am - 11.15am
Closed on Monday

9) Kiat Huat @ Haig Road Market Food Centre 吉發雲吞麵

Kiat Huat serves tasty homemade egg noodles which had a nice springy texture that comes with 4 delicious and substantial wantons. Wonton stalls normally give wonton with meager fillings but not this one.

Opening Hours: 9am - 3pm
Closed on Thursday

10) Hougang Meng Kee Wanton Noodle 后港明记云吞面

Hougang Meng Kee Wanton Noodle is located at Toa Payoh Lorong 8 Hawker centre. The springy feel of the noodles, as well as the liberal use of pork lard oil and crispy bits, appeal to me. The charsiew was also nice with a chewy bite, however, the wonton was lackluster.

Address: Toa Payoh Lor 8 Market, 210 Lor 8 Toa Payoh, Singapore 310210

11) GuangZhou Mian Shi wanton noodle 广州面食

I was at Tanglin Halt Market to try out GuangZhou Mian Shi wanton noodle which was a famous stall there with a constant queue. The noodles are springy without any alkaline taste, and the wanton was nice and plump but the char siew wasn't very nice and was dry af. Go try if you're around Tanglin halt.

Opening Hours: 4pm - 12pm
Closed on Monday & Sunday

12) Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert 香港盛記甜品

Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert may be primarily known for their desserts, their wanton noodles are not to be missed as well. The wanton 🥟 as you can see is also quite meaty and big, filled with premium Kurobuta pork and prawn. Their wanton noodles are also imported from Hong Kong with a nice springy texture and also no alkaline taste.

Check out Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert for outlets in Singapore.

13) Hock Kee Wan Tan Mee 福記熟食雲吞麵

The noodles had a good springy texture without an alkaline taste. Good char siew with yummy substantial wonton and dumplings. No complaints about this stall. They're located at Kebun Baru Market and Food Centre which is at Ang Mo Kio. Those who are regulars probably know the owner as 成龙.

Address: Kebun Baru Market and Food Centre, 226H Ang Mo Kio Street 22, #01-05, Singapore 568226

14) Central Hong Kong Café 中环正宗香港茶餐厅

This comforting bowl of wonton noodles is served in steaming hot soup with sizeable shrimp wontons! so good!  The noodles had a nice springy texture and the soup had a familiar Hong Kong taste. A piece of Hong Kong right here in SG now that we need to refrain from traveling overseas.

Go to Central Hong Kong Café for outlets in Singapore.

15) Fei Fei Wanton Mee 飛飛雲吞麵大王

Fei Fei Wanton Mee is another famous wanton mee stall that is located at Joo Chiat. I opted for no chili but the sauce that they used was already very good. The noodle came thoroughly tossed in the sauce which was so slurp-worthy.  The wanton was small but the fillings were substantial. The char siew was the thin and dry kind though. This also came with many vegetables which were kind of unusual. Read the reviews that standards had dropped here but my first time was a good experience la.

Address: 72 Joo Chiat Pl, Singapore 427789
Opening Hours: 6am - 2am

16) Min Kee Tanjong Rhu Noodles 明记丹戎禺云吞面

The noodles are nice, springy, and alkaline-free but the charsiew is kind of dry. The wanton is also okay only.
