Joy Luck Teahouse Celebrates its First Anniversary by Launching Afternoon Tea Snacks, Including Salted Egg Cookies by Bakery Queen of Hong Kong Louisa Ho

Cue the balloons and confetti as Joy Luck Teahouse is set to celebrate its first-year anniversary on 28 August! Apart from organizing an anniversary lucky draw where the first prize is a Lifetime Monthly Spending of S$88 at Joy Luck Teahouse, it will also be launching a series of afternoon tea snacks to commemorate this momentous occasion. The highlight of the series is the specially commissioned Salted Egg Cookies (180g for S$19), which is created by Louisa Ho, the undisputed Bakery Queen of Hong Kong. This marks the first time the veteran baker is selling her baked goodies overseas.  Savory punch with a melt-in-your-mouth texture — it is impossible to stop at just one cookie! These cookies are available at all Joy Luck Teahouse and Yum Sing outlets.

Louisa Ho’s illustrious career in Hong Kong’s bakery industry spans over 50 years. She held the position of President of the Hong Kong Bakery & Confectionery Association for over 30 years. The association brings together a group of professionals concerned about the future of pâtisserie. Louisa Ho also manages the magazine of this association — Today's Baking.

An acclaimed author with seven bakery cookbooks, Louisa also conducts bakery classes and workshops, with notable graduates such as Alan Or (Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong), Daniel Law (New World Millennium Hong Kong Hotel), Kevin Chiu (Mandarin Oriental, Taipei), Phyllis Lam (Pacific Coffee Co, Hong Kong) and Ray Li (Cona's Chocolate, Taiwan). Jeffery Koo, who hosted the TV program 甜心先生, was also one of her students. The baker has made numerous TV appearances, appearing with Alan Wan on 食得峰骚 (2012) as well as Meg Lam and Amy Chan during the ATV Ceremony.

Besides the Salted Egg Cookies, other afternoon tea snacks which are available at Joy Luck Teahouse outlets include the following:

Mala Fish Balls (S$4.80): Curry fish balls are the quintessential Hong Kong snack. This version sees the bouncy fish balls coated with a mala sauce. Whetting appetites, the sauce is tingly and hits just the right note of spiciness.

Mala Chee Cheong Fun

Mala Chee Cheong Fun (S$3.80): Joy Luck Teahouse comes up with an authentic Hong Kong-style Chee Cheong Fun, which Singaporeans can enjoy right here at home. The rolled-up rice noodle sheets are now served with a Singapore favorite: mala sauce.
