Indulge in Festivities with Sushi Tei’s Seasonal Aki Matsuri Menu, Starring Grape Madai and Akune GOLD Wagyu

Since ancient times, Japan has been hosting matsuri (traditional festivals) in celebration of lush nature, abundant harvests, and even self-fulfillment. Each festival is boisterous, replete with dancing, music, costumes, and of course great food. This September, Sushi Tei is hosting its own rendition of matsuri in celebration of bountiful harvests! It is unveiling the seasonal Aki Matsuri menu, which stars premium and unique ingredients such as Grape Madai and Akune GOLD Wagyu.

Grape Madai Sashimi

From the mesmerizing Kujūku Islands, Sasebo, and Nagasaki, comes the Grape Madai. Boasting a vibrant red-pink color, the fish is fed a unique diet that is rich in grape seed polyphenols. Reared naturally without any medications and in a stress-free environment, the fish has a subtle fruity sweetness and a firm texture. Enjoy it in different ways: Grape Madai Sashimi ($15.80), Grape Madai Sushi ($6.80), and Grape Madai Carpaccio ($18.80). The fish is also showcased in the Sashimi Moriawase Kujūku (M, $32.80), served alongside salmon, raw scallops, and salmon roe.

Next, behold the gorgeous marbling of the Akune GOLD Wagyu, which is owed to the cattle’s nourishing staple of pasture grass, rice straw, and grains. The cattle are reared in the heavily forested terrains of Kyushu, where clean air and spring water abound. From mouthfeel to flavor, this wagyu beef is exceptional. This excellent meat is the star of the namesake Akune GOLD Wagyu Saikoro Steak ($38.80). Pan-fried to a gorgeous crust, it is accompanied by a special sauce made in-house, and ceremoniously topped with ikura.

Other must-try highlights of the Aki Matusri menu include the Aji Shochu Shikomi ($17.80). Japanese horse mackerel is grilled to perfection and served with an invigorating ponzu sauce whose tanginess cuts through. Equally delightful is the Crispy Unagi Shiitake ($10.80), which sees a pairing of deep-fried eel and chewy mushroom. The exterior of the ingredients is airy and crunchy. Dip the ingredients into the yuzu mayonnaise, which lends a zingy sweetness. Finally, load up on carbo with the Chasyu Fried Rice ($12.80). The rice grains are fried with garlic, which imbues a fragrance, and then tossed with chunks of juicy roast pork.

Kuro Goma Azuki Latte (top) and Peach Sherbet (bottom)

Wash all the food down with Kuro Goma Azuki Latte ($5.80), an aromatic blend of black sesame milk with red beans. Cap off the session with the refreshing Peach Sherbet ($7.80)!

Sushi Tei’s Aki Matsuri menu is available from now to 13 December 2022.
