As a noodle enthusiast, I’ve always been on the lookout for authentic and delicious noodle dishes. Known for its authentic Sarawak Laksa and Kolo Mee, this eatery has carved a niche for itself, attracting noodle lovers from all over.

Lin Yu Mei’s journey started at Haig Road Market & Food Centre, where they established their first outlet. Since then, they have expanded their presence with additional branches at Anchorvale Road, Waterloo Street, and Punggol, making it easier for fans to indulge in their favorite dishes across different locations. Despite hearing countless rave reviews, I had never ventured into trying their Kolo Mee until now—an oversight I was eager to rectify!
Three Variations of Kolo Mee
At Lin Yu Mei, you’ll find three unique variations of their signature Kolo Mee: Black, Red, and White. Each version offers a slightly different flavor profile, but all share the same foundational elements that make this dish a beloved staple. The noodles are served dry, tossed in a light yet savory blend of lard, shallot oil, and light soy sauce. This careful seasoning ensures that each strand of noodle is infused with a delightful umami taste.
The White version of Kolo Mee, which I decided to try, comes adorned with minced pork, crispy pork lard bits, and slices of char siew (barbecued pork), all generously garnished with chopped scallions and fried shallots. This combination adds a complex layer of rich, savory flavors that dance on the palate. Each component complements the other—the crispy lard bits add a burst of umami, the char siew offers a slightly sweet and smoky note, and the minced pork provides a hearty, comforting bite. The noodles are perfectly coated in their seasoning, giving a satisfying savory experience with every mouthful, further enhanced by the tantalizing aroma of the pork lard.
To balance out the rich flavors, the Kolo Mee is paired with a side of clear soup and a small dish of chili sauce. The soup is light and refreshing, acting as a perfect palate cleanser, while the chili sauce adds a zesty kick that elevates the entire meal.
What sets Lin Yu Mei’s Kolo Mee apart is its light, non-greasy profile, allowing the natural flavors of the noodles and toppings to shine through. The noodles themselves have a springy texture and a slight crunch, making each bite a satisfying experience. The dish is not overly heavy, making it a perfect choice for those who enjoy a hearty yet balanced meal that highlights the simplicity and culinary traditions of Sarawak.
