1. Koung’s Wan Tan Noodles 龔氏雲吞面

Koung’s Wantan Mee has been one of my to-go places and I can finally check this off. The lovely springy noodles were nicely tossed in their savory dark sauce with fatty char siew and nice, substantial wontons! I don't like the dry kind of char siew but the ones here are charcoal-roasted which's why more tender.

Opening Hours: Tues - Sun 8 am - 8.30 pm

Monday 8. 30 am - 7.30 pm

2. Swee Guan Hokkien Mee 水源福建面

Another long-standing stall that serves up a delicious plate of Hokkien Mee. They have been operating since 1968!

I like my Hokkien mee to be soaked with zhup and be kind of soggier so Swee Guan Hokkien Mee 水源福建面 is already a win for me. On top of that, the prawns were fresh and you could taste traces of strong wok hei while you slurp on the noodles. This is due to being charcoal-fried!

Be prepared to queue up though as this store is popular. I went there at night and it was easy to get a seat at the coffee shop where the store is situated even though there was a long queue. The store is also walkable from Aljunied MRT Station. It is priced at $6, $8 and $10 portions. This may be slightly pricier than others but you won't regret paying for this!

They're unavailable on any delivery platforms but you can drop by for takeaway!

3. L32 手工面 Handmade Noodles

L32 Handmade Noodles, located at 558 Geylang Road, is known for serving some of the best ban mian in Singapore. Its popularity was evident from the wait for a seat. The menu offers various options, from classic pork and chicken to more adventurous choices like prawn, clam, and fish head. The user ordered dry youmian with sliced fish, which came with a side of soup containing an egg. While the noodles were cooked al dente, the sweet dark sauce was underwhelming, and there was an excess of soup in the dry noodle bowl. However, the side soup was thick, comforting, and enjoyable, making the soup version a preferable choice for the next visit.

4. Bali Nasi Lemak

Bali Nasi Lemak may appear to be a typical nasi lemak stall, but it has been operating in Geylang since 1985! They're a good supper spot because they're open from 5:30 p.m. to 4 a.m.

The owner is also related to the owners of Mt. Faber Nasi Lemak and Ponggol Nasi Lemak. Their rice was light and fluffy, with a pleasant aroma. This stall offers a wide variety of sides at reasonable prices for me to choose from. It also reminds me of an economical rice stall with a variety of sides to choose from. I didn't order one of their sets, but I did order chicken wings, otah, ikan bilis, peanuts, and a fried egg. The otah was tasty, and the chicken wing was well-marinated, though it could have been a little juicier.

They also have a black chicken wing with kicap manis sauce on it. From a Nasi Lemak stall, something different.
