REVIEW: Good Hawker food in Singapore: Fuzhou Ban Mian at Toa Payoh Central!

Fuzhou Ban Mian 福州板面 is located at the coffee shop beside the courts at Toa Payoh Central. If you ask me where to recommend nice ban mian in Toa Payoh, I would recommend He Jia Huan Ban Mian or Seletar Sheng Mian, but recently I have discovered Fuzhou Ban Mian. The coffee shop is always crowded during lunchtime so try to avoid that period.

I love noodles so this is totally right up my alley, not to mention a hot bowl of noodles is so comforting as well. They have mee hoon kueh, you mian, ban mian, bee hoon, and yee mian. Not your usual ban mian stall, they also have sliced fish thick bee hoon soup, seafood soup, and sliced fish soup with rice. If you want to spice things up, you may add prawns, pork, or chopped fish to your noodles.

I ordered you mian soup and also dry ban mian with prawns.

The portion for the noodles is fairly large. Each dish also has items like minced pork, cabbage, and ikan bilis. The anchovy was light in flavor, with a hint of sweetness from the cabbage. Though I wish it had a stronger flavor.

For the dry version, I choose ban mian noodles. Because the noodles were not evenly coated, I believe the ban mian did not go well with the black sauce. Choose either ee mian or you mian.

Some shops serve hard-boiled eggs, but the eggs here were runny. This would be even better for the dry version because it would add creaminess.
