21 horfun stall to try in Singapore!

The Hor Fun is a classic hawker centre dish of Chinese origin. It can be found at almost all zi char stalls and there are a few variations of these, like moonlight, Ipoh, and san lau. Some are cooked with seafood, beef, or herbal sauce. Soft, flat rice noodles on a bed of gloriously, silky and thick sauce, this is Singaporean Zi Char food at its best!

1) KEK Keng Eng Kee Seafood 瓊榮記海鲜 (Alexandra)

Keng Eng Kee Seafood is located near Queenstown. It is a popular tze char restaurant, however, they are most famous for their moonlight horfun. They were awarded the Michelin plate from 2016 to 2021.

Hor fun had a velvety smooth texture that was elevated with the raw egg yolk between and when combined with the dark sauce and excellent wok hei makes this one of the flavorful hor fun. Would be better if it was less salty though. There's a good amount of pork lard, lup cheong, and seafood in it too.

Address: 124 Bukit Merah Lane 1, #01-136, Singapore 150124
Opening Hours: 11.30am - 2pm, 5pm - 10pm

2) Ipoh Tuck Kee Son 怡保德记仔炒粉

Ipoh Tuck Kee Son 怡保德记仔炒粉 is so famous that we waited for very long, probably close to an hour. They are famous in Ipoh and has outlets here in Singapore since December 2020.

The Moonlight hor fun was served with a raw egg on top, tossed in a black savory sauce, and pork lard. We could taste the wok hei but felt that the raw egg wasn't enough to coat the entire plate for the large size portion. Each plate is also individually fried so waiting can be long and also the quality is ensured this way as well. I feel that this one puts up a close fight to KEK Keng Eng Kee Seafood.

Address: No 27 Foch Road Hoa Nam Building # 01-02 Coffeeshop Stall No.1, Singapore 209264
Opening Hours: 11.30 am - 2.30 pm, 5.30 pm - 9.30 pm

3) Heng Heng Hor fun

Tried Heng Heng Hor fun at Bukit Timah Food Centre. Hor fun here was cooked beforehand and the sauce was made upon order. I ordered the seafood hor fun with egg gravy. That slightly charred taste combined with the velvety gravy made this meal so good! There were also more prawns and fish slices in this for only $4.50.

Address: Bukit Timah Market & Food Centre, 51 Upper Bukit Timah Rd, 02-145, Singapore 588215
Opening Hours: 11.30am - 9pm

4) SHI HUI YUAN

Heard so much about Shi Hui Yuan and that they are awarded the Michelin bib gourmand for their hor fun. I went to their Plaza Singapura Kopitiam location. The Blissful set, which includes chicken drumsticks, duck, spareribs, braised eggs, and mushrooms, was what I ordered. For only $7.80, you get a lot of bang for your buck! The sauce is thick, herbaceous, and aromatic, thanks to the over 30 herbs that were cooked in it. Not to mention so collagen-rich with more than 1500mg of rice collagen. Hor fun had a bite to it and was springy. It's drool-worthy!

5) Bee Kia seafood restaurant

Love the beef hor fun at Bee Kia seafood restaurant. The area near Thomson Medical is seriously underrated leh with all the construction going on for the MRT line. The smooth hor fun is doused in black bean sauce with distinct wok hei. There are lots of beef slices and are mostly tender. 😍😍😍

Address: 1 Thomson Rd, #01-326 within Sin Mee Eating House, Singapore 300001
Opening Hours: 12pm - 11pm

6) Golden Charcoal Seafood

Golden Charcoal Seafood is a zichar place at Bedok! Was tempted after seeing fellow foodies posting about their moonlight hor fun. TBH this wasn't as strong flavored as KEK but not lacking in wok hei. v palatable! remember to mix the egg yolk well for a good slurpy experience.

Address: Blk 204 Bedok North Street 1, #01-435, Singapore 460204
Opening Hours: 11.30am - 2.30pm, 5pm - 10.30pm

7) Hong Sheng Restaurant 鸿勝菜馆

For more than 30 years, Hong Sheng has been serving authentic Cantonese cuisine zi char from a coffee shop in Toa Payoh.  Their fried hor fun was one of their popular dishes. Fresh prawns, squid, and pig tripe were served with the Hor Fun at Hong Sheng Restaurant. Unlike the reviews, I could taste the Wok Hei, but it wasn't overpowering. Hor fun was drenched in a viscous, delicious gravy.

Address: 203 Toa Payoh N, Singapore 310203
Opening Hours: 4.30pm - 10pm

8) Jin Hock Seafood

For people staying in the east, Jin Hock Seafood is a tze char stall that serves up this delicious double flavored hor fun. This Double Flavoured Hor Fun from Jin Hock Seafood combined both deep-fried hor fun and your standard hor fun with seafood in one. Hor fun has a silky smooth texture and a lot of wok hei in it. With its crunchy, light, and airy texture, the DF hor fun was a welcome addition. However, soaking it in the delectable gravy for too long may cause it to get soggy. The gravy was rich in seafood flavors too.

Address: 844 Tampines Street 82, #01-131, Singapore 520844
Opening Hours: 10.30am - 2.30pm, 4pm - 10pm

9) Lou Yau

If you're missing cuisines from Malaysia, Lou Yau has it all with popular dishes from beloved food cities like Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and Ipoh, for starters. Having one of the silkiest smooth Hor Fun at Lou Yau! They are produced using mineral-rich underground spring water from the mountainous regions of Ipoh. This Ipoh Hor Fun set comes with Kampung chicken and bean sprouts.

10) Hor Fun Premium

Finally tried Hor Fun Premium after the second visit. I was on the lookout for places to go have Hor Fun and this came up in the search! Miss tam chiak recommended this place. They are located at Alexandra Village Food Centre.

An interesting thing that I noticed is those hawker stalls that specialize in selling Hor fun often sell mui fan too? Is it because of the gravy?

The Beef Hor Fun ($5.00) comes with thick chunky beef pieces, veggies, and silky egg sauce that tastes like mui fan. Even though the beef slices were flavorful, they were a little tough.

Address: 120 Bukit Merah Lane 1, #01-78, Singapore 150120
Opening Hours: 10.30am - 2.30pm, 5pm - 8.30pm

11) Sin Hoi Sai Eating House

Sin Hoi Sai Eating House is an old school neighborhood Tze char stall. They have 2 outlets in Singapore serving Zi Char and Seafood dishes, one at Tiong Bahru and Katong. While looking through good places that serve up good Moonlight hor fun, this came up in the search.

The first impression is that this looks like KEK, but their taste was so different. Hor fun had a silky smooth texture that was boosted by the raw egg yolk in between, and when mixed with the black sauce and great wok hei, it was one of the most delicious hor fun I've ever eaten. This wasn't overly salty. There's a good amount of ingredients such as seafood and pork in it too.

Address: 187 E Coast Rd, Singapore 428893
Opening Hours: 3pm - 3am

12) Hin Fried Hor Fun

Hin Fried Hor Fun is not the same as the one at Ghim Moh. I only came to the one at Old Airport Road Food Centre because it is at a convenient location. They have a variety of hor fun such as with prawns and sliced fish and also mui fan with the same ingredients. Prices are also affordable from $5 - $6.

The Hor fun seems like it may be precooked which is common amongst stalls that specialize in Hor Fun. Although not the silkiest smooth that I have tried, but this has a well-balanced wok hei. Look at the charred edges on hor fun!

Every single beef slices are superbly tender. Can you see that the hint of pink in the middle and that equals tender beef!

Address: 51 Old Airport Rd, #01-163, Singapore 390051
Opening Hours: 11am - 7pm
Closed on Monday

13) Hong Kong Street Zhen Ji 香港街珍记

I will usually go for the usual hor fun or moonlight hor fun but since the San Lau Hor fun($6/$10/$15/$20) was the signature dish here at Hong Kong Street Zhen Ji 香港街珍记. I couldn't leave without trying this.

Despite this dish being quite light in color, this was pretty flavourful even without the absence of wok hei. I felt that the wok hei wasn't particularly prominent here. Hor fun was smooth and not clumpy though. The crunch from the generous amount of bean sprouts is fantastic! There were also a lot of fresh fish slices available. Another recommended food from this tze char stall is the XO fish head/fish meat bee hoon.

Address: 158 Ang Mo Kio Ave 4, 01-590, Singapore 560158
Opening Hours: 11am - 10.45pm

14) Tang Kay Kee Fish Head Bee Hoon

Tang Kay Kee Fish Head Bee Hoon sells Hor Fun/Mui Fan, fried rice, and rice bowls, and at night, they are a tze char stall.

I ordered the Black Bean Beef hor fun which comes with veggies, beef, sous–vide egg, and battered enoki mushrooms. The classic hor fun leveled up!

With the smokey wok hei being so evident, the sauce was incredibly excellent. Every morsel of food is wok hei.

The egg was cooked sous vide at 63 degrees and was lovely and runny. Tossing everything is the best way to consume this. It improved everything.

The battered enoki mushroom was also an excellent addition to this dish. So crispy and not overly salty.

The meat, on the other hand, was not particularly tender, with a few slices being tough to chew.

Address: #01-70, 531A Upper Cross St, Hong Lim Food Centre, 051531
Opening Hours: 11am - 2.30pm, 5pm - 10pm

15) Bak Kut Teh. Ipoh Hor Fun

I went to Albert Road food Centre for this Bak Kut Teh. Ipoh Hor Fun hawker stall. Yes, that's the stall name and they are selling both the local bak kut teh and Ipoh hor fun. What a weird combo, I know right.

I ordered the Shredded Chicken Horfun ($3/$4), served with a generous portion of shredded chicken meat and vegetables. The portion for the horfun for $3 is quite a lot too. The thick and viscous dark gravy that was poured all over the horfun was so good with an earthy taste. The horfun was also smooth and slippery!⠀⠀⠀⠀

Address: Albert Road Food Centre, 270 Queen St, # 01-66, Singapore 180270

16) Chiderful 吃淂福

I first saw Chiderful 吃淂福 when I was looking at where to have Hor Fun. They are located at City Plaza Mall and at a quiet corner of the mall.

The dish that I ordered is the Ipoh Hor Fun. The smooth and slippery horfun, when served, was already well-tossed in the sauce consisting of dark soy sauce and oyster sauce and topped with deep-fried shallots. This dish was savory and fragrant. The traditional Ipoh horfun comes with bean sprouts but their version has an opt-out of that. They still have chicken and vegetables. Their poached chicken although lacking in flavor, but can just toss it around in the noodle for flavor. It was so tender though!

Address: 810 Geylang Rd, #02-73 City Plaza, Singapore 409286
Opening Hours: 12.30pm - 7pm

17) Holland Village Xo Fishhead

Though Holland Village XO Fish Head Bee Hoon is most renowned for its XO Fish Head Bee Hoon, their San Lou Horfun is also excellent.

When this was served, the first thing I noticed was how fragrant the wok hei was! This dish has a light tint, as is typical of San Lou Horfun, but the silky horfun has been laced with wok hei. The crunch from a large number of bean sprouts is incredible! I appreciate how the head and tails have been removed, making it look neat and attractive. Fresh fish slices were also readily available. There isn't much sauce because the broth was reduced from a rich fish soup, which gave the horfun such a wonderful flavor.

Address: 19A Dover Cres, Singapore 131019
Opening Hours: 11.30am - 2.30pm, 5pm - 11pm

18) Changi Lor 108 Fei Lao Seafood

Changi Lor 108 Fei Lao Seafood is not located in Changi but at Bedok North. The first impression, there isn't a lot of horfun and the ingredients quite scarce. Only 1 slice of fish, 2 pieces of prawns, some pork, and liver. They could work on the portion. I'm not sure if the mixed horfun with seafood was worth waiting for.

After giving the horfun a good toss, I noticed some of the rice noodles looking charred and black specks on the horfun was an indication of wok hei. True enough, there were wok hei but not as strong as what the other blogs write about. The gravy was tasty but not memorable.

Address: 86 Bedok North Street 4, Singapore 460086
Opening Hours: 11am - 2pm, 5pm - 9pm
Closed on Tuesday and Wednesday

19) 136 HONG KONG STREET FISH HEAD STEAMBOAT

136 HONG KONG STREET FISH HEAD STEAMBOAT has the curry chicken horfun which was very unconventional. This orangey delicious curry chicken drenched the silky and smooth horfun. Rich, but not overly spicy. There were also a lot of odd chicken chunks in there. The horfun appears burnt, but the curry overpowers the wok hei, which works because it's supposed to be a curry horfun.

Address: Joo Seng Food Place, 1 Upper Aljunied Ln, Singapore 360001
Opening Hours: 10.30am - 2.30pm, 5pm - 10.30pm

20) Ong Yong Lee Seafood Zi Char

I was looking for a place to eat Horfun in Bishan and came across Ong Yong Lee Seafood Zi Char in my search for nice Chye Poh Horfun. So here I am, sweaty from a day in the Jurong Bird Park, ready to give this a shot!

The small Double Treasure Dry Hor Fun 双宝干河, which cost $5, was what I ordered. It's just nice for one person. When this dish was served, the first impression was that it was quite fragrant with wok hei. With the addition of chye poh, this was actually quite tasty. It wasn't easy to find them, but the flavor was there. It was impossible to resist the sweet-salty flavor! Horfun was similarly smooth and clump-free.

Address: 151 Bishan Street 11, Singapore 570151
Opening Hours: 5pm - 10pm

21) Kok Sen Restaurant

My friend highly recommended Kok Sen Restaurant, so here we are. Here, the Big Prawns Hor Fun was also recommended. The tasty, thick, viscous sauce had a slightly spicy touch to it. The prawns, which had a crisp texture, were also good. Each bite was laced with savoriness and wok hei.

Address: 30 Keong Saik Rd., Singapore 089137
Opening Hours: 12pm - 2.15pm, 5pm - 9.30pm
